Naruto's point of view

"Nagato!" I shouted, lunging at the man in front of the door and giving him a hug.

"Naruto. I've missed you," Nagato rasped out.

"Are you okay? Come in, before you get worse!" I ushered him in, pushing him to sit on the couch. I told him to wait there as I grabbed him some herbal tea.

"I'm fine, Naruto. You don't need to worry," he coughed out.

"Yeah, uh-huh," I replied, not even paying attention to what he said, only on that nasty coughing fit he was having.

"Thanks," he smiled, grabbing the steaming cup I held in front of him.

I haven't seen him in so long. Not since he moved out all those years ago. Red hair that hung down to his shoulders, looking dry and stringy. His violet eyes looked tired, face showing a worn down expression. Stick thin with skin hanging off of his bones, Nagato looked like he had been through a wringer.

"You look horrible," I blurted out.

Nagato let out a chuckle which transformed into a series of coughs.

"Yeah, well, I've been through a lot of shit," Nagato gave a half smile before taking a sip of his tea.

"Language," I lightly reprimanded.

"Oh yeah, I forgot Kushina raised you like that. I'll make sure to watch my mouth."

"Tell what happened? What brings you here?" I begged. He did not look nor sound well at all.

"After I moved out of the house, I got involved with this gang, the Akatsuki. That was the name of Yahiko, Konan, and I's trio. Konan was even in it, so I had to join, if only because of Konan. It was run by a masked man who called himself Madara," Nagato got out before another fit overtook him.

"If you can't talk, you don't have to! It's just nice to see you, Nagato. It's been too long," I smiled, getting up and sitting next to him, rubbing his back in a circular motion.

"No, it's fine," he waved me off, "I can talk. We got into some trouble, among other things, for years. Seven years ago I found out his name was really Obito Uchiha. A year later, I found out he was the man who killed Kushina and Minato. Half a year after, he told me he killed Yahiko. Both times I recorded him telling me that, and both times I had to keep myself from killing him. I gave the evidence to the police and he was arrested."

I remembered that time. The police came to my house. They sat me down and delivered the news. Once they told me, I went into shock. Next thing I knew, I was in the hospital surrounded by my friends and Godparents. Jiraiya and Tsunade were also surprised when I told them, but they hid it well.

After I got over the initial shock, I felt anger and happiness all at once. They raged inside of me until the day Obito was sentenced thirty to life. On that day, peace slowly washed over me. I still had questions, though, so I visited him in jail.

"Why? Why'd you kill them?" I whispered into the phone, looking him in the eyes through the glass. When I first looked at him, words eluded me. Everything I wanted to say flew from my mind until only one word remained.

"Why? I truly don't know why," he finally said, an emotion I couldn't quite place washed over his face with those six words.

I sat there for what seemed like forever before I slowly got up, getting ready to set the phone in its original position.

"Wait!" Obito shouted. I looked back at him, sitting down and bringing the phone back to my ear.

I waited for him to say something.
