I heard the clatter of dishes and the sound of running water as my parents cleaned up from breakfast in the other room.
I finished reading the last page of my book and closed it. Perhaps Chester could take me to the library is today. I stood up and grabbed a bag, putting books in the bag that I had to return. I exited the room.
I arrived in the kitchen, where my brother was washing dishes. "Chester, can we go to the library today?" I asked.
My father was at the door, putting on a coat before he left for work. My mother was probably in her bedroom getting dressed.
"Absolutely," Chester replied, "after I finish the dishes."
I would help, but I was too short to reach the sink.
After my brother finished washing the dishes, he went to his bedroom to put on decent clothing. I went to my bedroom and did the same.
I opened my closet. A lot of my clothes...were white. I love the color white. White goes well with any color. White is simple, and doesn't draw too much attention. I put on a pair of denim shorts and topped it off with a white cowl neck sweater. I looked in the mirror. Not bad.
I walked out of my bedroom, and saw my brother putting on a coat by the door. "You ready?" he asked.
"As I'll ever be," I replied, putting my bag over my shoulder.
My brother opened the door. "After you," he said with a kind smile.
I walked out the door, into the apartment lobby. Chester followed me. He opened the lobby door, and I walked out onto the sidewalk. Chester and I began to walk down the sidewalk on the way to the library.
As we walked, something caught my eye across the street.
And suddenly, shards of ice were headed straight for my brother.
