Reckless and Brave

I watch Kakashi and Yammato work with Naruto on his jutsu. Naruto would often get close to forming it but it would break or the nine tail's chakra would seep out. A ninja tells Kakashi that they need to get back to the village. "But why?" Yammato voices his confusion. "Sarutobi Asuma is dead," as he said that statement I froze. I personally was not very close to him but I know how hard it will be for his team, especially Shikamaru. I can tell just by hearing there conversations that Asuma is a second father to him. I grit my teeth as I teleport into the village.

The whole village gathers at his memorial dressing in black. Last time I wore these funeral clothes was when Oji-sama died. I watch people place white lilies down by his picture. I try not to look to much at Kurenai and Konahamaru to keep myself from crying. "Where's Shikamaru?" I hear Ino whisper. My eyes shift slightly to them. "I don't know, his mother said he left awhile ago," Choji answers back. I duck out of the ceremony and look for Shikamaru's chakra signature. I follow his trace to the Nara compound. I skirt along the edge of the property which was conveniently covered in trees until I found him. He plays a one sided shogi game and works with twin chakra blades. I frown as he smokes a cigarette. I decide to watch through the night to make sure he would be okay. Because stalking someone is my form of caring.

In the morning, he walks out of the compound and goes to the gates. At the gates waiting, I see Ino and Choji. "Let's go," Shikamaru instructs. They go about 100 feet before Tsunade stops them. "What do you think you are doing?  You can't go out and take revenge. You only have 3 members," she tries to sway them, but they refuse to stay put. "You can send backup," Shikamaru tries to comprise. "You still need a fourth member," Tsunade insists.

"I'll with them," I come into sight. Three of them look at me surprised, but Shikamaru grins. "You need an extra member right?" I offer. "How long were you there?" Choji asks. I grin sheepishly. "Well, I was keeping an eye on Shikamaru since yesterday," they squint at me slightly. "So you were stalking him." Ino implies. "It sounds so negative when you say it like that. I was just making sure he was okay," I hold up my hands in defeat. "I'll go too," I hear Kakashi from behind me. "Even if you don't let them go, they'll go anyway," he whispers to Tsunade. Team ten hoops and hollers when Tsunade gives in. Sasuke should take notes. I tell them of Kakazu's powers and Hidan's immortality.

"So I changed the plan a bit since Kakashi-sensei and Hono joined,"  I feel Ino's eyes on me. I remember Sai saying that she didn't trust me. Oh well. He goes over the plan and instructs us to go over it in our heads three times over. We continue under the lead of Shikamaru through the wooded terrain.

Time Skip

Ino uses mind transfer to view from a bird's eye. Her eyes snap open as she releases the jutsu. "So?" Shikamaru inquires. "They are heading down a different path" We trail close behind them and Shikamaru uses the shadow possession jutsu, but Kakazu notices and him and Hidan jump away.

Two explosions are set off but blocked by Kakazu's arm. Shikamaru throws an explosive tag on Asuma's chakra blades but it doesn't detonate. He uses the shadow from the blade to complete his jutsu. Under that jutsu, Shikamaru makes Hidan slice off Kakazu's arm. But black vines connect his arm back together. While the whole scene is unfolding, I watch from high in the trees. Choji, Ino, and Kakashi are on the ground. When Hidan swings another forced attack at Kakazu, Choji uses Bullet Needle Tank jutsu, which turns his hair to needles and covers his as he spins rapidly. The ground breaks as he land on top of the two rouges. "It doesn't hurt him when we cut him. I think he is using a skin hardening jutsu," Shikamaru conclude. I wish I could tell them about each attack but I can't disclose my position. "You're right," Kakazu says as lightning explodes from his body.

Shikamaru beckons out Kakashi and runs at Hidan with a Chidori. Hidan kicks him in the gut into a tree. "Let's end this quickly," Hidan asks."That was my intention," Kakazu produces four vine monsters from his back. I notice one of the monsters' mask cracking. I them remember what that meant. I throw an unnoticed kunai at the monster destroying it completely. The two were not facing in my direction so they would think it fell apart on its own. "One is already dead?!" Hidan screeches.  One of the creatures attacks but Kakashi keeps them safe countering it with Raikiki.  I force myself to watch waiting for an opening.
