Chapter 4

Chapter 4-

A smile lit up on my face. But this time, it was real.

I turned my head to her and she smiled back at me. Mrs. Applegate began to teach the class.

"Austin!" She snapped. I looked up. "What's the answer?"

"Um...7?"

"No."

I was lost for a minute. Maya was drop dead gorgeous. I wanted to talk to her more and get to know her but I was really shy.

Soon enough, trig was over and I was off to economics. She was in that class too. I couldn't keep my eyes off her.

Third period came and it was English. Maya was in this too. But Jason was in this class with me also. And that's what scared me.

To my surprise he ignored me the entire time. Didn't say anything. I was relieved, but still worried.

When I got to lunch, I sat down at a table by myself. Jason was at a table a few down from me. Then I realized that Ashley wasn't in school. Even though Jason and her broke up because of what happened, she was still always in my lunch period. I looked down at my phone and was scrolling through twitter and then someone sat down across from me. It was Maya.

"Hi," she said with her perfect smile.

"Hi, I'm Austin," I said nervously.

"Oh hi Austin! I'm Maya. I'm new here."

"Yeah the teacher introduced you to us first period," I said smiling.

"Is it ok if I sit with you, Austin?"

"Yes, that's fine, go ahead!" I said happily. "Actually, I think my mom went to your house last night, your mom invited us over but she said you were at your soccer game and you'd be home late though" I told her.

"Aw, you should've waited for me! You seem so sweet."

Wow. What's happening. Am I dreaming?

"Well thank you!" I said.

All of the sudden Jason came up to me. Maya had a confused look on her face.

He grabbed the collar of my shirt and pulled me up. He punched me in the stomach, kneed me in the place you DON'T want to be kneed, and the pushed me on the ground. Then he walked away. Holding my stomach, I got up and almost fell back down again. Maya, completely shocked, came around the table to me and helped me up. She held me up because I barely could stand because I was in so much pain.

"Why did he do that to you?!" Maya asked.

"Can you take me to the nurse?" I mumbled out. She nodded, almost crying. She was scared, I could tell. Of Jason.

She began walking me to the nurses office and I sat on a bed. She explained to the nurse what happened.

"He can barely talk..." she said.

The next thing I remember was blacking out. The pain was so intense I couldn't take it. And the next thing I remembered after that was waking up just before the last period of the day started. Maya was gone and the nurse was at her desk. She turned around and asked me how I was feeling. I told her I was better and she said that I could go back to whatever class I had.

With that I was on my way to study hall, another place where I would have to see Jason.

I walked into the door of the room and saw Maya turned around talking to another girl. She heard me opened the door and turned around. I walked over and took a seat next to her.
