I needed to save Joe. I don’t care if he's been ignoring me since our breakup. I had to save him.
I started running in that direction. It had completely slipped my mind that there were all zombies down there.
"Chloe where are you going?!?!" Robert yelled.
I stopped and turned around. "I have to save him!"
"No you don’t!"
"And why not?"
"He's such a douche and never respected you! Is that really the kind of person you want to save?"
I ignored him and started running again. Even though he had been rude, he was so nice in the beginning, and was always so funny. And just because we broke up doesn’t mean I don’t care about him.
I wasn’t sure what I was going to do when I got to the zombies, but I needed to do something. Anything. That was when I heard footsteps behind me. They were running footsteps, so it couldn’t have been zombies. Zombies take slower steps. I turned around expecting to see Meredith and Robert, and I did. But I also saw some other people. I knew these people but I had never really talked to them. It was Tony, Michael, Fifi, Grace, Leila, Eddie, and Amy.
“What are you guys doing here?” I asked.
“We’re gonna help you save Joe.” Fifi said.
“He’s our friend. It’s our duty.” Eddie said.
I smiled. “Thanks.” I said. “But we should hurry.”
We all ran over there and hid behind a big tree.
“What do we do now?” Tony whispered.
“I don’t know.” I responded.
“So you were just about to risk your life to save him… WITHOUT A PLAN?” Amy said.
But she said it so loud that the zombies all turned around and looked in our direction.
“Uh-oh.” She said.
“No shit uh-oh!” Grace said.
“Nice going Amy!” Tony said.
“Sorry! I didn’t think that would happen!” Amy responded.
“Well it did happy now?”
“I said I was sorry!!”
“Well you didn’t seem to care about apologizing at the fact that you almost killed us!”
“It’s not my fault oka-“
“GUYS!” Leila screamed.
“Sorry.” Amy said.
“Yeah, sure you are…” Tony said.
“Shut it Tony!” Fifi said.
We were all backing up. That’s when Robert grabbed a stick on the ground.
“What are you doing with that?” Meredith asked.
“You’ll see.” He responded.
He ran towards one of the zombies and smashed the stick through its skull. It fell to the grass.
“I did it!” He said.
“That’s nice.” Grace said. “But what about the others?”
He thought for a minute. “GET SOME MORE STICKS!”
We all observed the ground for sticks and smashed some zombie skull with them. When all the zombies were dead, Joe looked at us with disbelief, as if what he had just witnessed had all been some crazy dream. But no, it was real.
We all ran over to where Joe was still standing on the ledge.
“Joe, are you okay?” Fifi asked.
“I think so.”
But Joe was anything but fine. When he came down, his left leg faltered.
“Oh my god. Joe.” I said.
I knelt down. Fifi knelt next to me.
“Joe, are you okay?” I asked.
“Yeah, I’m fine. I told you… I’m just fine.” He got up and started limping away.
“We can’t let him go like that.” Fifi said.
“No shit.” I responded.
We started walking towards him.
Robert’s POV
I knew why Joe was acting this way, and I knew that Fifi and Chloe would just make it worse. So I grabbed their shoulders and they stopped and turned around.
“I got it.” I said.
“You sure?” Chloe asked.
“Positive.”
I ran and caught up to Joe.
“Hey Joe?”
“What?”
“Why are you just walking away?”
“Because you guys will want me to come with you, and with my bad leg I’ll just hold you guys back.”
“So you’re just gonna give up? Is that it?”
“Well, not give up bu-“
“Yes it is. It’s giving up. You give up so easily on everything.”
“No I don’t!”
“Yes you do.”
“Name one time!”
“Chloe.”
“What?”
“I said Chloe, Joe!”
“What about her?”
“She loved you, Joe. But you gave up.”
