(Annalissa)
I was in the middle of reading my old copy of Greek myths. I had read this exact book maybe close to over a hundred times. But they never got old, they were my favorite well, besides my worn copies of Alice In Wonderland and The Brothers Grimm fairy tales. Sure Hans Christian Anderson was amazing as well, the gory rewritten tales of the brothers Grimm were even more enticing. Suddenly an odd thought occurred to me.
Smiling I brought the book up to me nose and inhaled it. I loved the smell of old books it was like my own personal brand of heroin. I laughed at my reference to Twilight. "Is that how you get high or what?" I heard a certain emo boy tease from my doorway. I looked up and smiled. "Maybe. I'm not sharing if it is." I taunted. He pouted. "Be that way."
"Come on. My dad's probably already trying to get the decorations out." I said and hopped up off of my bed. I stopped and turned towards my night stand first. I opened the drawer and grabbed the necklace from inside of it. I slipped it on and then turned to face Jojo.
"Why do you always remember last minute to wear it?" He asked. I shrugged and began walking down the stairs with him. The necklace was gold and had my name spelled out in cursive.
"I guess it's better than never remembering at all.'' He offered. I smiled at him. The necklace had been a gift from my dad before he had begun to ignore me, before my mom had died.
Once outside we found that my dad had already pulled out dozens of boxes from the shed in various sizes. They were strewn across the backyard. He was already struggling with another. I laughed and pulled my curly brown ringlets into a pony tail, situating my bangs and fringe.
I walked over the him and helped him pull it out. Though I treasured the time my dad actuallyacknowledged me I wished it wasn't just during the times he need me to do something for him. I hated decorating for Christmas, he knew that or at least he did until he began ignoring me now I'mnot so sure.
Once we had pulled the box out he realized Jojo was here aswell. "Oh Jojo, your here? Good, Hunter had Whoball practice." I rolled my eyes behind his back making Jojo smile in amusement.
"You to can start bringing the boxes to the front. Im going to go and fetch the ladder." We nodded and began taking the boxes to the front. Most of them we had to carry together because of the weight of them.
Bringing around the last box, I blew my bangs out of my eyes. I looked up and realized my dad was already on the roof stringing up lights, in frenzy. Looking next door I realized the cause of this. Mr.Hanawho my dad's long time Christmas rival was already halfway done with his house.
"Well, come on lets start bringing up more lights." I muttered to Jojo who followed my lead andgrabbed some of the many lights and followed me up the ladder. At the top we were told to string them on the nails already in place from many pas Christmases. My house had some parts of the roof slanted and peaked while others were flat. Jojo and I took care of the flat part while my dad started on the peaked. Because there was no way I was about to climb up there and risk breaking my neck.
"Thanks again for helping out." I said, still feeling guilty that Jojo had given up his free time to help me. "I told you it's fine. And besides it got me out of the house and away from the maniacs I call sisters. They apaarently picked out a matching outfit for me." He shuddered with disgust.
I laughed. "I would pay to see that." "Well you won't because I'm burning it first chance I get." He protested. "Always killing the fun I see." I teased.
"Whatever. Your the one that would share your drugs." I rolled my eyes, as we finished off the lights we had brought up. "I'll go get more." He offered. I nodded and sat on the roof waiting for him. "Anna, when you and Jojo finish the lights. Get the Christmas tree." My dad called from some part of the roof. Sometimes I wondered why we had such a big house for 3 people 4 at one time but still. But then I remind myself it's for show, and to fit the many decoration's we have.
