CHAPTER 4

Power

I opened my eyes to a blinding glare that seemed to stab straight through to my brain. I slowly sat up from the bed I found myself on, and looked around to see where I was. The room I was in was a plain bright white, and had a sterile feel to it. The only feature it had was a heavy oak door that was set into the far wall, about twelve feet away. There were no windows, so I had no way to find out if it was day or night.

As I sat trying to think of a way to get out of here, and how hungry I was, the door on the opposite wall opened, and in strolled a fairly average looking man, aside from the tawny coloured hair. He smiled at me, looking for all the world as if I hadn't just woken up in a strange place after blacking out. "Good day" he said, still with that smile on his face. He was staring at me, looking me up and down in a way that made the hairs on the back of my neck stand, and the ears on my head flatten....oh crap! My ears! I shot my hands to my head and tryed to cover up what he had surely already seen. He laughed, shaking his head and said "Kaiden, we already know you are an animal hybrid, there is no need to hide that fact.

Now I stared at him. What did he mean, he knew I was a hybrid? And why had he not freaked out at seeing my ears and eyes? All these questions were spinning around my head, confusing me, while this strange man just stood there and smiled at me. I was beginning to get a little frustrated. Unnoticed by me, the walls of the room had begun to vibrate and the air was getting a bit warmer, causing the man's smile to slip for the first time since entering the room.

"Ok Kaiden, I can understand if you are a little upset, but I promise to answer all of your questions as best I can, we will get you some food, and some more comfortable clothes, ok? So just calm down" he said, taking a step back and looking wary.

I glared at him, making sure he was telling the truth. "Fine, but if I dont like what I hear, I'm out of this place" I muttered.

Whats your name anyway?" I shot at him

"Alex" he said, smile back in place now that the walls had stopped shaking. He left the room for a couple of minutes and came back with some baggy jeans and a black t-shirt, and a full sized pizza. I wolfed it down and got dressed, Alex standing in the corner all the while.

Eventually I finished and looked at Alex expectantly. He pushed himself off the wall and told me to follow him, and we walked out into the hallway and down a white corridor. We came to a large set of double doors that opened on a sensor, and my jaw dropped as I looked through. There were hundreds of people milling about the place, going about different jobs, or walking and talking.

The amazing thing wasn't how many there were, but the fact that almost all of the had some sort of animal trait! Bright flashes of colour caught my eye as a couple of men with wings sprouting from their back, the bright feathers standing out from their surroundings. An exotic looking woman with midnight black skin and yellow eyes walked past me, and stopped to talk to a man who looked like he dogs ears and a tail.

I turned to Alex and saw he had a big grin on his face. "Impressive isn't it? " he asked

"I had no idea there were others like me!" I managed to get out. I was still stunned by all the different people I could see, and how many there were.

"Come on,there is someone I want you to meet" Alex gestured across the room and we started pushing through the crowd, heading for a hallway on the opposite side of the room. We finally managed to squeeze through a couple of cat hybrid ladies and carried on down the corridor. We walked for a few minutes in silence until we came to a large oak door with a golden nameplate that read 'President'.

We stopped outside and Alex knocked on the door and waited, hands behind his back. I was starting to get a bit nervous now, when a deep voice came through the door. "Enter" it called, and we opened the door and entered the room. It was filled with expensive rugs and gold bordered portraits lined the walls, while a large oak desk dominated the room. A man stood behind it, and turned to face us as we entered.

He was an average looking man, dark hair lined with gray, and wrinkles starting to show on his face. He wore an expensive looking suit, and held an onyx cane. Hid dark eyes looked straight into mine and I shivered, it was like staring into the abyss. "Good afternoon" he said quietly, and I inclined my head. "I am the president of this corporation, and you have been brought here on my command" he declared in a business like tone.

"Why, what possible reason could you have to bring me here?" I growled

He glared at me and walked around the desk, stopping right in front of me.

"I have brought you here for one purpose, to be my commander" he growled

A commander? What did he mean? A weird feeling had started to build in my head, like I was viewing what was going on from outside myself, and I was losing my grip on reality. It was getting stronger and stronger, until.....darkness.

Alex leaned against the wall, watching the head talking to Kaiden. The president was rambling on about Kaiden leading his armies against the world, and making himself leader of everything, so he didn't notice the change that came over Kaiden. The room seemed to darken and the shadows grew. A terrible feeling overcame Alex, shivers travelling up and down his spine, and he couldn't think straight. He looked at Kaiden with fear written across his face, and the president finally noticed as he glanced over.

"Whats wrong Ale-"

CRUNCH

The president looked down and was confused to see what looked like an arm coming out of his chest.

"What the hell!" Alex shouted, leaping forwards. The president slowly looked up and stared into a face of nightmares. The eyes were pitch black and fangs were growing out of its mouth, which had curled into a sneer. "Why" the president managed to choke out.

Kaiden grinned insanely and ripped the heart right out of the mans chest, and watched the body fall to the floor. Alex had frozen and stared at his leaders body, and was now gazing fearfully at the demon across from him. Kaiden tossed the heart he still held onto the desk and spat on the body at his feet.

"You humans sicken me" he growled, and walked around the desk to flop into the chair behind it.

"What have you done" Alex whispered, horror on his face. Kaiden turned to look at him and he flinched.

"I have removed the piece of filth that thought he could rule me and Kaiden" he said, staring at him with those eyes like coals.

"Wait, you AND Kaiden?" Alex said, confused.

"Yes, I am the hidden intincts of this boy, awakened not long ago. I will protect him no matter the cost, and will not have him serve under a filthy human!" He said

Just then, a knock came from the door, and they both turned to see the newcomer who had decided to turn up at the worst possible time.
