Ever since that phone call with Brian Billie couldn't wait for him to come back. At first it had seemed like hearing his voice was good for her, but in the end it only made her miss him more. Nearly every night she dreamed of him, and nearly every morning she felt that awful feeling of emptiness and loneliness wash over her. The worst mornings were when she had to get up early and go to work, because she could hardly motivate herself to even just get up and eat something. She preferred to stay in bed where she could dream of Brian. It had already happened that she had been late for work because she had been imagining such wonderful situations that she couldn't get herself to leave that dream world where Brian was by her side and not thousands of kilometres away.
It was the same on that grey and miserable Thursday morning. However, her mood was getting a little better with every day since Brian was due to be home the following Wednesday and she was anticipating his return. She caught herself daydreaming about the moment when they would finally be able to wrap their arms around each other again. There were so many ways she dreamed it could be, and she couldn't wait to find out how it would be.
She dragged herself out of bed and still half asleep started the kettle that stood on her stove so she would have some tea with her breakfast. Sleepily she trudged into the bathroom and washed herself quickly to wake herself up a little more. Next to the mirror in her bath she had a small calendar with numbers on it, counting down the days until Brian would return. Today the calendar showed the number six, making Billie smile at her reflection in the mirror, even though it was much too early for anything in her opinion. When she heard the water boiling, she returned into the kitchen to make herself some breakfast before she got dressed and went to work.
She still worked in Kensington Market with her friends Tara and Rhonda, a few stalls down from Freddie and Roger with who she hung out a lot after work to distract her from the loneliness. However, since they were a group of five, it occasionally happened that she was still left alone as the four of them went off in two pairs of two. Of course happened unintentionally, they didn't leave her behind on purpose, but the pubs usually were quite busy and things sometimes were forgotten about. Normally Billie simply stayed behind and watched their things, while at the same time fending off various young men that tried to hit on her. She wasn't as nervous as she had been in the past about that, because she knew that she wasn't alone and Roger and Freddie would have her back as soon as she signalled them she needed them. However, she had gotten pretty good at politely brushing off whoever tried to land with her.
Since Roger, Tara and Billie didn't have to work on Friday morning, the two of them convinced Billie to join them on an evening out in the pub. A little reluctantly she had agreed, since originally she had been planning to spend the evening alone at home with a bottle of wine and the photo album that Brian had given her for Christmas. The two of them had already filled eight more pages since December and Billie often spent her evenings off looking through it and dreaming of better times with her man by her side. However, she knew that Tara had a small crush on Roger, but was nervous to do anything so Billie had agreed to join the two of them to make the beginning of the evening a little less awkward and tense for her friend.
After they had closed their stall for the day, Billie and Tara went over to their friends' stall to wait for Roger to finish as well. While her friend was talking to her crush, Billie decided to give them some privacy and looked through the fancy clothing the Roger and Freddie sold in their little shop. Luckily it didn't take long for Roger to finish up and for the two of them to finish their flirting for a moment. Roger played absolute gentleman and held the door open for both women. Tara was completely smitten with Roger while Billie simply thanked him, chuckling softly when he winked at her. There was nothing going on with the two of them but it still amused Billie that he was charming all around. However, he only wrapped his arm around Tara while Billie simply walked beside them as they discussed their plans for the evening.
