"Are you really sure you're okay?" Brian asked, pulling her closer.
"Yeah," Billie mumbled.
"I'm just asking because ... you haven't kissed me since you got here yet and normally I can't stop you from doing that," he pointed out, holding her close.
That was true... but... Billie hadn't even noticed. Not until he had pointed it out. "Oh... yeah that's right. I'm sorry, I think I'm just feeling a little under the weather and I don't want to give you anything if you still have to tour and play concerts." That wasn't even that much of a lie.
"Oh alright. Are you sure you'll be fine going out with us?" Brian asked, pulling away a little so he could look at her. "I don't want you to overdo it if you're not feeling well, okay? Promise me that. I won't be upset. I know it's our anniversary tomorrow but if you need to rest then you do that. Your health is more important."
"I'll see how I feel, yeah," she told him. "Did they tell you anything about when the food would get here?" She asked and sat down on the bed. She wasn't hungry, but she was tired and she knew Brian wouldn't let her sleep before she had eaten.
"They said half an hour, maybe a little more. And that was fifteen minutes ago, so not much longer. You can lie down if you want to. I can join you, if you want. I guess I can use just lying in bed with my lovely wife," he said with a smile and reached for her hand.
"Yeah," Billie just said with a small smile. "That would be nice. Are you very stressed?" She asked him and curled up on the bed. It was good to be back with him... as long as she kept pretending.
Brian joined her on the bed. "Not really stressed... just very busy. But that's normal. Nothing out of the ordinary. It's always good to get a chance to properly relax though. Do something completely unrelated. You know?"
"Yeah... I can imagine," Billie said. "We can talk about something else than music."
"That's good. How have you been? Have you made any more progress with jobs?" He asked her, rolling onto his side so he could look at her.
Billie didn't have to work anymore, but she wanted to. She needed something to do for the times when she was alone, when he wasn't there. And becuase she had learned that working with people directly wasn't for her, Brian had suggested that she could pursue her passion as a job. She had the chance because Brian was now earning enough for both of them. And so she did. Art had always been her passion, it was something she was good at and now she could make it her job. "I've gotten the chance to illustrate a couple more books actually."
"Two even?" Brian asked astonished and smiled. "Wow, that's wonderful. Congratulations, I'm so proud of you."
"Thank you," Billie said with a smile, a genuine smile. "I am very happy about that. They're going to be published next year so I have time to do it well."
"I know you will do it well. You know I think you're a fabulous artist," Brian complimented her.
Billie smiled more. "Thank you. You're so sweet. I did miss you," she sighed softly and moved closer so she could wrap her arm around him.
"I missed you too," Brian replied and wrapped his arm around her too, relieved to see that she was showing him some affection. "Let me know if you need something, okay?" He said and softly kissed her forehead.
"I will," she assured him, closing her eyes. "Yeah..." It was good to be back by his side. There was a reason why she called herself his wife.
They lay by each other's side until a knock on the door told them their dinner was there. They ate on the bed because they were lazy - and comfortable. They didn't talk much, but somehow that was okay. Brian knew Billie, he knew her moods and he knew that there were days when she didn't talk very much. And if she had those days she shouldn't be pressured because no good came of that. If he allowed her some peace and quiet, she would be fine. She didn't even need to be alone most of the time, not if it was only Brian who was there. Brian was her husband, she needed him by her side too. He respected her and her ways and that was why she allowed him there.
