Mariah's POV

Everything was falling apart. Malia refused to help us deal with the Dread Doctors because she couldn't bear to watch innocent teenagers die, and Kira had to leave because she wasn't able to control the kitsune inside her. Stiles was always very stressed, a lot more than he should and nobody knew why. Maybe it was Malia, because it looked like they were drifting apart. Liam was traumatised by the Dread Doctors because they took him and Hayden. Luckily, we saved them. Theo tried to help us very often and gain our trust, but like Stiles, I never fully trusted him. In fact, I didn't trust him at all. As far as I was concerned, I had lots of trouble dealing with my werewolf side, because I was newly bitten by Scott. He had to do it to save my life since Donovan almost killed me.
Finally, Scott watched everything crumble and everyone drifting away. He felt helpless. His girlfriend left him fight this without her, his best friends hell, could he even consider them that?- were also drifting away from him. And the worst of all, is that he actually blamed himself for this.

I decided to go to Scott's to see him. Is knocked on the door and Melissa opened it, letting me in.
"How is he?" I asked her. " I don't know Mariah, I honestly don't know. He's locked up in his room since he came home. But I believe that if he's going to let anyone talk to him, it's gonna be you."
"Thank you Melissa, I'll go talk to him now." I said and smiled at her. But before I turned to walk up the stairs she said" You know, he loves you. He always has. He just can't admit it to his dumb self" I looked at her and tried to say something like 'that's not true', but I couldn't form the words.
The truth is that I always had feelings for Scott, but for the sake of our friendship I never told him and I kept those feelings hidden.

I knocked on his door and I told him that it was me so he could let me in. Eventually, he opened the door trying to smile a bit but failing. Seeing him like this actually broke my heart. I engulfed him in a hug and he hugged back. We stayed in each others embrace for a couple of minutes until he said:
"Something's changed"
"What do you mean Scott?"
"I don't know, something's different. With me and you guys. I think, I think it's because of me. And I don't know how to fix it."
I looked at him with a pained expression as he looked away from me, trying to hide the tears in his eyes.
"Scott, I'm not gonna lie to you. Something has changed between us, between all of us. It seems like everyone leaving us, like their giving up on us on you and-"
"But you haven't left yet" Scott interrupted me.
"Why haven't you left Mariah? Why haven't you given up on trying to save everyone in Beacon Hills like the most of the group? Why are you here with me?
Those questions caught me extremely off guard. Well, I couldn't tell him the real reason soI quickly tried to make up something when I realized I was looking at him like a weirdo.
"Why would I leave Scott? You're my best friend and you know that I would do anything for you and you're my alpha so..." I glanced at him but he looked unconvinced.
"You're hiding something aren't you"
"No I'm not Scott. Everyone I care about is here there's no reason for me to leave." "I know you're hiding something Mariah. I've known you since we were kids I know when you're hiding things. And like you said, I'm your alpha."
I knew there was no way out of this, he wouldn't let it go until he found out the truth. Well, here goes nothing.
"Scott, I can't leave this town , this pack , you, I can't. Because we all need each other now, more than ever." I said and got up to leave, but before I left his room I whispered " and because I love you".
However, he heard it because of his damn werewolf hearing.
"What did you say?"
"I know you heard it Scott don't make me repeat it" I was at the verge of crying and my voice cracked. He tried to say something but I said" I know you don't feel the same and I never expected you to... Just, remember that I'll always be here for you, whenever you need me, I'll be there... That's why I can't leave." He had a shocked look on his face, tried to process everything I told him .
I tried to leave but then he grabbed my hand and looked me in the eyes and said: "You know, because of all the drama we're dealing with, I forgot to tell you that me and Kira broke up before she left" All I could do was look at him with a confused expression on my face. "And you know why? It wasn't only because she had to go, it was also because she wasn't the one I was in love with... It's you." In that moment all I could think of was that I was the luckiest girl in the world and I grinned like crazy.
"You know what? When we'll be done with all of this, I'm gonna take you on date. What do you say?"
"I'd love to go on a date with you McCall"
I said and gave him a kiss on the cheek.
"I'm gonna go now. Goodnight Scott."
"Goodnight Mariah".
That night, neither of them dreamed of the Dread Doctors, or anything bad in their lives. They only dreamed of eachother.
