Chapter 3: My Old Home
Romany should have been resting like Austria had tod her to but she couldn't, she was in the same room that had once been hers when she lived under Austria's rule. The things that had once been so enormous and even slightly menacing, considering how small she had once been, were now a good fit for her.
Tossing the covers aside she sat in a chair closer to the window nothing was the same in this house although it did seem that way.
She was fidgeting more and more by the hour finally she just couldn't take it.
She opened the door just a crack to be able to peer into the hallways when she saw nobody around she quietly slipped out the door.
The house was cold especially in her nightgown, she could feel the cold of the marble floor and night air. But the walk toward the room wasn't that long it was just a few moments before she reached the door.
As quietly as she could she opened the door to the room and went in closing the door behind her. She was in the room that had once been filled with laughter.
It was the same as when he had left, nothing had been changed. Next to his bed was a sketch of Italy and herself cleaning.
A single tear managed to escape before she wiped it away, she had promised him and she would not fail. He might have broken his promise but she would not.
Flashback
She had finished hanging up the laundry and decided to go over to the flower field that was nearby. It was hard for her doing the things that were expected of her but she did her best.
Lying on soft grass she yawned the night before it had been hard sleeping on a regular bed instead of out in the woods. Closing her eyes she dozed off and fell asleep.
Holy Rome was out in the same field as Romany trying his best to draw one of the flowers. But something green caught his eyes and walked over to where it was.
That's when he saw Romany fast asleep 'I've never seen her before' he thought. He held onto her warm hand hoping she would wake up but she didn't.
After a moment sparkling gray eyes looked at the boy who still held her hand. With a small blush Holy Rome moved away his hand from hers.
"I'm Holy Rome who are you?" with a quick smile Romany answered "I'm Romany, Austria is my new guardian."
"Would you like to be friends?" asked Romany with a closed mouth smile. With a small blush creeping on his cheeks Holy Rome nodded.
"That means you're my first and best friend" said the young Romany standing up. Holy Rome stood up as well and took her hand leading her towards Austria's home.
Both young countries cheeks tinted pink as they walked toward their home and next few years of life together.
End Flashback
Tears slowly streamed down her face as she remembered her best friend the one who was always there for her.
She learned to do many things just for him so that when they got older their marriage would be a happy one.
But now he would never know she felt and what she had done just for him.
Her sweet Gabriel was gone taking with him a much happier and confident Romany. He had told her his human name and she had as well.
They trusted in each other very much only they had told their names to each other. No one except Romany knew his name was Gabriel and only he knew her name was Autumn.
"Why did you break your promise Gabriel why?" she cried herself to sleep in that room. Her sadness returning and haunting her again.
