Claude raced towards us, eyes the brightest id ever seen them. And id seen them bright quite a lot recently. The look on his face was mutinous, murderous, and determined. I reached out for Ciel, grasping his tiny hands in mine and holding tight. I needed to hold on to something to keep me from jumping out of my skin. He gazed at me, then to the window and back. With a look of conclusion, he pulled the shade to the carriage window shut.
"You don't need to see that." Ciel said so calmly that it almost made me feel better. He looked backward, towards sebastian. "Are we close?" he shouted over his shoulder and above the noise of crashing trees, turning wheels, and clashing hooves.
"Yes, my lord. Very close. Hold onto something." Sebastian shouted back and whipped at the reigns.
"Close? To what?" Just as I questioned his words, I felt a kick in the carriage, sending Ciel and I floating off our seat, reaching and grabbing onto one another for some imagined stability. It felt as if there was no gravity any longer. As if the carriage itself was floating. Everything was silent, spare the sound of wind creaking through the carriages cracks. Then suddenly, gravity came weighing down on us and we fell, the carriage crashing into the ground. It began to snip and snap and break apart at the seams and before we knew it, Ciel and I were sent flying up and out of the tumbling carriage. My eyes looked up to see that once again, Sebastian had saved not only my life, but Ciels too. For the millionth time.
We stayed in that vicinity, landing on the dirt below with a thud, and watched as the broken carriage ran off, the horse still driving, spooked by the stunt it had unknowingly just pulled. My breathing was heavy, and my hair fell in every way on my face as I whipped my head up to look at Sebastian.
"Was that necessary?!" I gasped.
"Any sort of diversion to keep him off our tail is good." Said Ciel, getting up and dusting off his pants and shirt. I followed, gathering my skirts and shaking them about to get some of the dust off them. I looked at Sebastian who was gazing behind me at the hole in the earth that we had just leaped over. "How long do we have? " I asked, knowing what he was thinking. His eyes met mine, "About 20 minutes or so. We need to move." He said gravely and Ciel nodded his head. "Yes, show us where, Sebastian." He commanded and we were off, walking into the woods and into the dark.
We walked for what seemed to be hours, but in reality it was only a few short minutes. Sebastian carried Ciel so that our place could increase. Demons walked so fast it seemed. Finally, there was a break in the dense wooded area. My eyes were set upon a vast field of black flowers. Petals drifted in the air like snow. No, not snow. Ash. The dark color mixed with a navy blue sky. The ground glowed with almost a white hue.
"Where are we?" I asked. My eyes scanned the ominous beauty that surrounded us. Sebastian looked to me and placed ciel on his feet once more. "The bridge between our worlds." He said softly. Ciel gazed with a bewildered look. "This is what you crawled out of?" He said. "I half expected mountains of flames and the sound of screams." He smirked and turned to Sebastian who quirked a brow in response.
"What now?" I looked behind me, aware that Claude would soon be in sight. Sebastian began walking towards the edge of the feild. "Now, we jump." Ciel and I began to follow his lead, exchanging hesitant looks and questioning gazes. Our trust was with Sebastian now.
