Pete was at his locker, holding the crumpled Romeo and Juliet brochure in his hand.

"Fag," a voice hissed at him.

"Tranny," another one followed.

Pete didn't want to deal with this. Oh, why did he do the play? Mikey played him just so his stupid play wouldn't get ruined. He'd made Pete believe he was really in love with him just so he'd be Juliet for the night.

He should've said no. He should've let the play get ruined. Who cares anymore? Everyone hated him now except for Patrick and his mom.

He felt someone close his locker and looked up at Mikey who was smiling at him.

"Hey, Pete," he cooed gently. "What's wrong? You haven't been answering my texts...?"

"What am I supposed to say in reply to 'I love you'?" Pete narrowed his eyes.

"Umm... Maybe that you love me, too? Unless you're not ready for that," Mikey said, quickly. "I'm completely okay with that," he added.

"What if I'm not sure that you love me?" Pete narrowed his eyes.

"Well, what can I do to convince you? I'm in love with you, Pete. I just didn't know it for a while. I was so confused about Alicia... and Patrick, and I didn't really know what you thought about me," Mikey murmured.

"Mikey, you don't have to lie," Pete shook his head. "Please don't lie to me."

"Pete, what are you talking about?" Mikey tilted his head. "Did I do something wrong? Let me fix it, I'm so sorry..."

"I can't blame you for just letting your true colors shine through, Mikey. But you can blame me for hating it," Pete replied, holding his books to his chest. "I honestly thought you liked me or something."

"Pete, I do! I do! What's wrong?"

"Did you text Alicia last night?" Pete asked. "About being "in love with me" or whatever?"

"Yes," Mikey said, suddenly turning uncomfortable. Pete narrowed his eyes.

"Thanks, Mikey. That's really all I needed to know," Pete said, finally. "In case you were wondering, I did like you. Ever since eighth grade," he added.

"Pete, I never said anything bad in text messages...?" Mikey as looking at him confused. "Here... Look!" Mikey pulled out his phone but Pete shook his head.

"I don't want to see them."

Mikey stared after him, sadly. He didn't pursue him.

"I can't believe you actually liked that dude," Patrick rolled his eyes as they sat in Pete's bedroom. "He turned out to be a dick," he said from the bed, looking through magazines.

"I really liked him! How could I have been so stupid to think he'd actually liked me too?" Pete sighed back. "All I wanted was him... And I certainly got him alright," he added, bitterly.

"This is Alicia," Patrick added, hesitantly. "Are you sure she's not... Playing you or something?"

"Pat, she showed me the texts and the number too! It was Mikey's number. I'd recognize it anywhere!" Pete replied.

"Yes, because the Internet never lies," Patrick smirked.  He turned at the vibration. "Mikey texted you. A lot."

"I don't want to answer it," Pete shook his head. Patrick pulled the phone  off the edge of the bed.

Pete watched Patrick's expressions change and he looked up at Pete.

"You need to see this..."

"I don't want to see it," Pete said, stubbornly.

"Yes, you do" Patrick nodded, holding the phone out to Pete.

Alicia: Ur not actually in love with Pete, are you?

Mikey: yes.

Alicia: I thought you loved me.

Mikey: no. I don't.

Alicia: You'll hurt him.

Mikey: no. I love him.

Alicia: what about all the things we've shared?

Mikey: I don't care

Mikey: I never did.

Alicia: wow. I actually thought you cared. You deceive people very easily.

Mikey: no.

Mikey: I'm not deceiving anybody.

Mikey: I used to like you. I thought I was going to marry you someday. You changed and I didn't like that. I need someone who's not you.

Alicia: so you're going to become gay now?

Mikey: no.

Mikey: I've always been bi.

Alicia: why did you hang out with him?

Mikey: because he was nice. Nicer than you at least.

Alicia: why did you even join the school play. U knew u were getting Romeo and u knew I was getting juliet.

Mikey: my mom made me.

Pete looked down at Patrick in confusion.

"What the hell?" He cocked his head.

"She deleted the messages in between," Patrick shrugged. "It's not that hard."

"Oh God. I messed it all up," Pete sat on the bed, heavily. "He hates me now..."

"Shut up, Pete. He doesn't hate you. You're being absolutely ridiculous."

"No... At school today... I said some things I shouldn't have. How could I have thought that that was Mikey," Pete covered his face with his hands. "I need to apologize to him."

"Tomorrow?" Patrick prompted.

Pete nodded.
