Zara

I found myself closing my eyes and clasping my hands together, hoping I hadn't pissed off the big man too much.

I bit my lip to stop myself from chuckling, regardless of the consequences it was so worth it.

I knew the palace was the most sacred place up here. Standing sky high, the walls gleamed a pearl color and it's windows glittered every time the sun hit them. But it was time for the palace to have a change for once, and being the brave soul that I am, I decided to take initiative.

Sure, nobody asked me to and I doubt they would ever let me near the palace again but this was a mission I could not just let slip by. Ever since I could remember the palace had always looked the same, everything here looked the same.

And I'll let you in on a little secret as well, I hated repetitively.

I came crashing back to reality when I felt my ankle being yanked from under the table in which I chose to take shelter in.

I let out a loud screech, "Let me go, you big buffoon!"

I heard a familiar chuckle and suddenly, I felt my annoyance increase as I heard the voice as well, "Not a chance kid, you're really in for it today."

It was Samuel, the best darn guardian angel heaven had ever seen. Our relationship consisted of a love-hate type of thing. On some days I could crack a cold lemonade with Samuel and exchange stories from when we were humans and other days I had to fight tooth and nail with Samuel.

Like, right now.

Throwing all the fucks I should have given out the window, I decided to pinch Samuel's side and bite down on his shoulder.

Suddenly, I felt myself being flung through the air as I landed roughly on the ground. I didn't give the ache in my behind much thought as I stood back up and took off for the gates.

"Come back here! You, you-,"

I laughed loudly as I continued to run away, "Sorry Sammy, every man for himself!"

I could see the entrance of the gold gates from where I was and I could practically taste freedom on the tip of my tongue.

Yet, it wasn't the freedom that I tasted, it was dirt. Dirt and fucking grass if you wish for me to be precise.

For a full five seconds I laid there, wondering how Samuel had recovered that fast and had covered all of those feet.

But it wasn't Samuel who had caught me, it was the big man himself.

God.

I took a deep breath. Samuel had been right, I really was in for it today.

My amber eyes met his chocolate brown ones and I could practically touch the anger rolling off of him.

"Get up and follow me Zara," He simply stated before he turned around and walked towards the palace doors.

I stood up and tried to calculate the amount of feet it would take me to reach the gates before I got caught again.

But just as I was angling my body to take off, I felt my shoulder being squeezed causing me to wince at the grip.

Well, I never said I could calculate numbers or you know, actually succeed in running away.

"Doesn't feel so good when the tables are turned, huh kid?" Samuel asked smugly and I knew the bastard was smug because I didn't manage to get away.
