The 16-year-old boy stood in front of his new classmates. He was silently peeling on a bit of loose skin near his fingernail. He wasn't the most social person, so standing in front 20 people who were all staring at him wasn't his favourite activity. The boy wished he could go home to just sit in his room and read some magazines.
However, his teacher had other plans. "Everybody, welcome our new student. His name is Gerard." She turned her head to look at him. "Why don't you tell us something about yourself?"
This was the thing he was dreading most of all. "Uh, yeah, I'm Gerard Way and I'm 16 and I like comics." There was no way he was gonna tell them about his other passion on his first day of school.
"Okay, Gerard, that's nice," the teacher said in a neutral voice. "You can take a seat right there." She pointed at an empty seat on the right. It was on the third row from the front and right next to the window.
Gerard pushed a string of his black hair behind his ear and after walking carefully towards his assigned seat and trying really hard not to trip, he sat down.
He hadn't brought any stationary with him, so he just looked a bit lost at his hands.
The guy next to him noticed this and tapped Gerard on his shoulder. Gerard looked beside him to see a guy with bright blue eyes that were hiding behind his glasses and long black hair that was just a bit longer than his. The guy smiled friendly at him and handed him a piece of paper.
"Thank you," Gerard whispered shyly.
"No problem," the guy said a bit louder than Gerard had, before going back to taking notes.
After the lesson was finished the guy, whose name is Bert discovered Gerard, got asked by the teacher to help Gerard around a bit. He happily agreed.
Bert brought Gerard to all of his classes and they spent their breaks together. They got to know each other a bit more and Gerard started to feel comfortable around Bert. He even ended up telling him he's a dancer. Bert hadn't really responded, but he didn't seem repulsed by it either. Gerard figured that that was a good thing.
At the end of the day they walked home together to find that they lived only a few houses apart from each other.
The day had gone by pretty fast and for some reason Gerard didn't like that. He wanted to see more of Bert and his silly reading glasses. He was really sweet and gentle to Gerard.

Gerard and Bert walked to school together every day after their first meeting. Bert would always knock on Gerard's door and he would always have to wait for Gerard who would take ages to get ready. He wasn't the most organized person. But Bert never cared. He would patiently wait for Gerard, a soft smile tucked on his lips.
Today was exactly a week after the day they met. Bert was knocking on Gerard's door and after a few seconds Gerard opened the door.
Gerard barely looked at Bert who was holding flowers behind his back.
"Just wait in the hall for a bit, I'm almost ready," Gerard hurriedly spoke. He rushed off upstairs to get all his things and put his shoes on. After two minutes he hurried downstairs.
When Gerard was standing in front of Bert, Bert took the flowers from behind his back for Gerard to see.
"These... Uh, they are for you," Bert said.
A slightly red colour was making its way to Gerard's cheeks. He took the flowers from Bert and asked, "What do I deserve these for?"
Bert shuffled a bit on both feet. "I think you are kinda cute and I was wondering if you would like to maybe go on a date with me."
