Chapter 2 | Welcome

Ten hours flew by as I slept in my new room, which is surprising considering any time I try to sleep somewhere I'm not used to, take a friends house for example, I can never sleep comfortably. But my mom and I drove for thirteen hours with only three bathroom breaks in between for gas and snacks, so I'm really not all that surprised as well. I'm simply neutral.

When I opened my eyes the sight of evening sunset came in my line of vision, clearly stating that I need to be up soon to start getting ready for tonight's dinner with the Horan family. My heart skipped a beat when that thought processed through, causing me to become slightly lightheaded. I don't know what it is about the Horan family that makes me so anxious, however I'm pretty sure it's just the Niall kid. The way he was acting made me uncomfortable and stiff. I know I shouldn't be judging and assuming so easily, it's wrong. But it's already hard to adjust to the new atmosphere of a completely different state and neighborhood that I used to live in; I can't help but become a little curious and weary. His parents and older brother seem very kind and respectful, though.

Suddenly I heard fast paced footsteps moving closer to my door, I sat up in my bed.

"Paris, are you almost ready to go to the Horans? We need to be there on time in about half n' hour." Moms voice rang in my room as she stepped in the doorway. I looked down at my lazy clothes and sighed knowing I should probably change to look more presentable. But, I nodded up to my mom and said I'll start getting ready.

Thankfully I took a shower earlier this morning so there's no need for another one, I'll just spray on some perfume and roll on deodorant to make myself smell better. For an outfit though, I just picked out a romper with some gladiator sandals. That's one thing about me that I've always loved, honestly. Just being able to pick out outfits quickly and to be happy with my natural face, it saves so much time.

After I changed into my outfit and made myself smell good, I quickly brushed my teeth to make sure I'd have a pearly white smile and applied a little bit of mascara. With that I grabbed a tiny purse, put my phone in it, then made my way down the spiral staircase to the front room where my mom was seated comfortably upon our plush white 'L' shaped couch watching some news on TV.

"I'm ready to go. We have about twenty minutes but it'll probably make us look better if we left a little early." I stated. I really didn't want to leave early but the faster we got there, the faster we'd come home. That's at least what my mind came up with. Mom nodded and turned the TV off then stood up straightening out her outfit. You could tell she was just as nervous as I am. Her face seems a little paler, her eyes look like they're going to budge out of her head at any given moment, then she seemed shaken up a bit. I wrapped an arm around her in reassurance and told her everything will be alright. It may seem like we're both being over dramatic but this is the first time we've been invited to a dinner before, besides with family at least.

We headed towards the front door, opened it, then locked it behind us as we began walking next door to the Horans. I could feel my heart pumping so fast that it felt like it was going to burst out of my chest any minute, going a thousand miles per hour. However, the way my heart felt on my property was much better than the way it started to feel as we approached their house.

The Horans property seemed about the same size as ours, but slightly different. Instead of pure white brick like our house is made out of, their house had lovely beige bricks giving a cozy appearance. Which made my muscles relax, but anxiety was still kicking my butt.

Before we knew it, my mom and I were standing on their front door step ringing the door bell. We heard some commotion happening inside then suddenly heard the door handle twist and open revealing a smiling Maura, "Come in! It's very lovely to see that you're a little earlier!"
