Two.

Luke sat uncomfortably, fidgeting with the ends of his long-sleeved jacket. I noticed his face had gotten much paler than it was before, and he became more reserved. I started to worry when he didn't mutter a word as cold sweat seen on his forehead.

"What's wrong with you?"

"Nothing."

His answer was as fast as lightning. Clearly, something was wrong. So then, I cleared my throat trying to ease the tension.

"Your ice cream's melting. Are you really okay? You've been awkward since... Well, since the sky turned dark. Can I get you anything?"

"Whatever. Don't act like you care!" He spat, getting up from his seat giving me a cold glare. He rushed over to the counter and paid. Without receiving the change, he walked out of the store putting on his hoodie.

"Woah. Like, what just happened?" Sarah, who was quiet and uneasy all the time, snapped.

"I swear his eyes glowed. I must be seeing things today. Well, whatever he's a total freak to bailing on us! Let's get home."

I thought he'd make my day right, but I guess I'd have to take back my words. I can't believe he bailed on us and left us searching for words. Man, that was the second time I ever got so angry at someone. The first time it happened, mum tore the arm of my favorite teddy and I threw tantrums for nearly a week. Then again, looking back at just now, I'm pretty sure I saw his eyes were green. Not the green green, but the slime, neon green, as if reflecting light with his retina when he shot a brief glare at me.

There's something I may not have known about him, but clearly, I'm finding it out.

There wasn't any history class the next morning, so I didn't actually meet Luke in school. But fate just has its way of pissing me off.

Wait, did I say fate?

"Melanie! Please, I-I'm sorry... Something happened and I can't tell you...yet?" He looked at me in the eye, and I could clearly see the guilt, not wanting to let go of the grip on my shoulder.

"Psh... Yeah right." I slapped his hands off me and continued walking.

"I'm sorry! Hey!"

His voice trailed off as I kept on walking. I can't take off my mind of his green eyes. It's really bothering the shit out of me. So then I halted and made a u-turn. Plus, Luke's literally got no friends in school. Most of the time he's alone but seemed like everyone's still okay with his presence, thanks to his looks. Some may ask him out a few times I saw, but he always turns them down. I don't even know what he wants with me, getting all friendly and stuff.

"Right." I crossed my arms over my chest as I let out a sigh. "On one condition."

"Name it." his face suddenly glowed, and I felt my heartbeat go faster as he looked me in the eye.

I was the first to break eye contact, "Tell me what's up with you last night."

He got quiet and his stare went blank.

"Any others?" His voice was low and husky.

"Nope. If you don't want my apology, then my business with you here is done, my friend."

I raised my palms above my shoulders and before I could make another move, something caught my wrist.

"No. Wait!"

Luke sounded hesitant. I've never seen this side of him before. I tilted my head to get a better view of his face.

"You're the first person I've ever gotten close ever since I moved here Melanie. You don't know how I feel."
