Deputy Oliver

He shifted in his seat uncomfortably. Ara Heely's file was opened on his desk. He knew he shouldn't be prying, but there was something about that girl that told him she was important. He'd learned from experience that his gut was often right. Tim Oliver let out a pained sigh.

His desk was a mess. Papers and files everywhere. Case files, open, closed and cold, all lingering in his small cubicle. He stared at one in particular. Just as they had gotten a tiny bit closer to finding out what happened, her file was sealed shut and labeled confidential.

Amelia.

His fists clenched under his desk. A similar thing was happening to this girl he had met under the Manhattan bridge. He knew they had put her in a new home, but for some reason her case was sealed shut. It didn't make any sense.

Unless something happened to her.

Worry nagged at him. He couldn't help it, he cared for most of the kids he saw on the street. But Ara, there was something more to her. And he didn't know what it was.

He stood from his chair and walked through the office. It was afternoon, most deputies were at their stations, answering phone calls, working on cases, dealing with the chaos that came with the job. He stopped in front of the door of the Deputy Chief of Police; Eric Doberman. He knocked once and let himself in.

Eric Doberman wasn't a small man. He was built from head to toe in muscle, the kind that could only come from endless training. The pen he was holding seemed miniature in comparison to his monstrous hands. He stopped writing for a moment to look up at Tim. Doberman might have fit the job description simply because he looked like a Chief of Police physically. On the outside, Doberman was intimidating. But there was one thing that set him apart.

"Hello, Timothy," he greeted with a nod, a small smile in his eyes. Eric Doberman was irrevocably gentle and well mannered. Something that was rare to see in a Deputy Chief; especially the one of Queens, New York.

"Chief," Tim said with a nod, "I had another question about the sealed case." Eric Doberman sighed.

"That Heely girl?" he asked rhetorically, a frown on his face, "You need to stop getting worked up over these sealed cases. The girl is fine, relocated to another district probably. Probably sealed due to problems with her last home," He gave Tim a serious expression, the kind he used to make people listen. "Stop looking for trouble, Oliver." Tim nodded, his lips pressed in a hard line.

"Yes, sir."

Tim could only think of a few things that could get a case sealed. And foster family issues wasn't one of them.

"Yo, T.O!" Shouted a young man. Terry was a younger deputy, assigned to Tim for looking after while he got used to the ropes. The kid was loud and quick to stand up for what he believed in, having grown up in the Bronx from an underprivileged minority family. "We heading out for patrol soon, bro?" he asked. Tim scratched the back of his head.

"About that," he said awkwardly, "I was actually considering taking some time by myself and running patrol alone. You okay with going home early today?" Terry gave him a suspicious look. But eventually he shrugged.

"Sure thing, man. Do what you need to do." he said. Tim sent him a quick thanks and headed out of the station to his car.

There were no rebellious, orphaned teens under the Manhattan Bridge that day. He didn't really expect there to be. But he really wanted to find out why he felt the strange connection to that girl. And he was really worried about how she was doing now. He sighed and gave a glance at the East River. The sunset left licks of flames across the reflection, Manhattan on the other side.

Tim watched the sunset and darkness set in before making his way back to his car to complete his rounds. Before he had even opened his door, he noticed a familiar voice coming out of his radio.

"--a situation with a naked male about mid 20s," it was Terry, Tim realized. Tim wondered if Terry had decided to run patrols on his own. Worry for his partner nagged at his stomach. "And he seems to be covered in blood." Tim froze. Naked. And covered in blood. "I'm going in to stabilize the situation."

"That idiot, Terry!" Tim yelled and ripped open the door to the car. He grabbed the radio fiercely. "Terry, I'm coming. This is officer Oliver, Tim. Immediate request for backup," he nearly shouted.

If werewolves were in New York, there was going to be trouble.
