Something didn't feel right.
Jack shot up into a sitting position, almost falling off of the tree branch he called home. He couldn't shake the feeling that something was out of place.
The Guardian of fun scoured the area, but found nothing unusual. Still uneasy, the teen soared high above the earth and looked down. His jaw dropped: every last inch of snow he'd blanketed the earth in just hours ago was now dirty slush on the sides of the roads.
An enraged Jack flew to the North Pole and landed through the open window. Surprisingly, all of the guardians were there.
"Alright, this isn't fun anymore! Who's been melting my snow?! I worked so hard! This is the third time I've had to redo my snow!" Jack struck the butt his staff onto the floor, causing the entire floor to become an indoor skating rink. North held onto a machine of his to keep from falling, Tooth hovered, as well as sandman, and Bunny just jumped onto the table.
"Slow your kangaroos there, Mate. We ain't done anything. " Bunnymund hopped on all fours to the globe in the center of the room, using his claws to stay in place.
"If you didn't, then who did?! It's not like I can magically poof the snow there! It takes forever and it drains me! So whoever' doing this better cough it up!"
The guardians were shocked. The Winter spirit was always relaxed and pulled pranks, but now... He was stressed and in obvious need of a good night's rest.
"Pitch." North took a glimpse at Jack, whom instantly went slack. He unfrosted the floor and flew to North. "What?"
"Pitch," North repeated, "He's returned. I feel it in belly! He melt Jack's snow...he up to no good." Jack put his hand on his forehead, not comprehending, "But we defeated him! His Nightmares tore him apart!"
Tooth fluttered over to Jack, seeming melancholy, "Unfortunately, Pitch is immortal. He's regenerated. Although how he's done it so quickly, I'm not sure."
Sandy tugged Jack's sweatshirt, "What is it Sandy?"
A picture of Jamie floated about his head, next to a picture of Pitch."Jamie had a nightmare?" Jack translated. Sandy nodded and continued to indicate that he though Pitch was endangering Jamie.
Suddenly remembering his promise, Jack dropped his staff, "Oh, frostbite! Jamie!" Jack scrambled to pick up his staff and left the pole without so much of a goodbye.***
Jamie fished around under his pillow until he felt the change. Smiling, he jumped out of bed and put his newly collected money into his piggy bank. "Ow!" Jamie leapt back an examined his wrist- a spider had just randomly fallen and bit him! And it hurt!Jamie scanned his dresser for the bug, but saw no sign of it. Shrugging it off, he bandaged his wrist and dressed in clothes and a thick coat. Running outside, he laughed as he wondered what kind of adventure he and Jack would have today.
But he saw no snow. Only brown scattered everywhere. Throwing his toboggan into the slush, he ran back to his room, crying. Not even Jack Frost cares about me...
