Niko, Jade, and Kayson were on their third house, and were forming a plan.
"This house always has a bowl that says 'pick one'." Jade says hinting at something.
Niko knew, she did this last year with him. "We each take one handful, and then run."
Kayson nods and they walk up to the bowl full of candy. Jade goes first, then Kayson, and finally Niko. They stuff their bags with the handful of candy and walk instead away.
"Ok, the next house..." Jade formed every plan and executed it each time. When they got home — which was Sara's house — they dumped their candy in a pile and sorted through it.
Whatever candy they didn't like, they set aside. The ones they liked, them kept and put them in piles of same kind of candy.
"Can I trade you my Milky Ways for your Milk Duds?" Jade asked Kayson and he handed his Milk duds over to her.
Over the past month or so of being around Niko, Kayson picked up that he liked Snickers, and Kayson handed Niko all of his Snicker bars. In exchange, Niki gave Kayson three packets of Skittles.
Jade, Niko, and Kayson went on like that until they were satisfied with what candies they had.
Kayson went to his room to stuff his bag in a secret spot so little sneak, Finnegan, would find it and steal it.
"Jade, can you get Niko?" Kayson asked when he heard footsteps in his room. Kayson was bent down, putting his bag in the bottom draw of his bedside table.
Niko chuckled that Kayson thought he was Jade. "I'm not Jade. I'm the person you asking for." Niko said and sat criss cross on Kayson's bed, already eating his second Snickers bar.
Snickers were his favorite thing to eat right after Rocket Pops.
Kayson looked up and over and smiled. "Oh hey." Kayson grabbed two packs of Skittles and went to sit next to Niko.
Niko finished his Snickers and crumbled his trash in his hand. There was a silence between the two, and it was the weird silence where you knew someone had a question they wanted to ask, but wasn't.
It was getting uncomfortable in the room, so Niko asked his question.
"Kayson, what are we?" He just wanted to know what to consider them.
Kayson popped a yellow Skittle in his mouth and said "well, what do you want to be?" Kayson knew what it was like between them. They kissed, acted like a couple, but weren't, and there was a tension unnameable sticking between them.
"I don't know." Niko shrugged and looked down at his hands.
Kayson suggests "what about monogamy?"
"What's that?"
"Where you are only with one significant other at a time. Monogamous relationships are like dating, you just don't have to call it dating." Kayson explains, but Niko still has questions.
"Isn't that just like dating but without calling it dating? And it's practically just saying you won't cheat on the other person." Kayson shrugs but asks "are you asking is we should say we are dating?"
Niko shrugged again and got up. He should head home.
"Well I have to go. See you some time." Niko said goodbye and steps a couple steps before Kayson is in front of him. They share a cute little kiss and Kayson says "I like your idea better Niko." Niko leaves with red cheeks and a smile on his face.
