Emilia rolled over and flick off her alarm. Pulling herself out of bed she rubbed her eyes and walked over to her mirror. She looked in the mirror, reminding herself that this year is going to be different. Taking in her olive skin, her hair that reached just short of her hips and the black nighty she wore, she flashed back in time. It was at a masquerade ball and she wore a simple black ball gown. Dancing to the music, she never took her eyes of a young man, who watched her. She shook her head, standing back in front of the mirror. She grabbed her school clothes out of the closet and changed into them. She walked down stairs and into the kitchen. Pouring herself a bowl of cereal and milk she sat at the bench. While placing her finished bowl of cereal in the sink Johnny came thumping into the kitchen in only boxers, his hair sticking up in every which direction.
"Good morning." Emilia chirped.
Johnny stopped and stared at her and mumble something about how much he hated mornings. Emilia just rolled her eyes and headed out of the kitchen. She padded up the stairs and into the bathroom. She quickly brushed her teeth and pulled her hair up into a ponytail. Packing her school bag she came across a necklace that she was given, by William. She looked at it for a moment deciding if she should put it on. She put it on, the small silver circle resting in its usual place, comforting her. She picked up her folder and shrugged her bag on. She shoved her phone into her pocket, after making sure it was on silent and walked back down stairs to the kitchen. Johnny and their mum were standing there arguing about driving him to school. She quickly grabbed her food off the bench and placed it neatly in her bag. She turned back to Johnny interrupting him mid sentence.
"John, stop arguing. You're walking to school with me. Go and get dressed."
Johnny stopped and looked at her, something in her eyes made him shift. He stalked out of the kitchen cursing under his breath. Emilia doubted that their mum could hear him but she could.
"Thank-you for that." Angela said sighing.
Emilia smiled, "Don't worry, I'm here all year."
"Good thing too, he seems so listen to you more then me."
"I don't know why, though." Emilia laughed.
"When you talk to him it's like you could be his mother. Just then, you looked like you were thirty."
They both laughed, but it didn't quite reach Emilia's eyes. Before either of them could say anything more Johnny came barging in, a scowl slapped across his face. He chucked his food into his bag and looked between them one more time before walking out again.
"I think that's me." Emilia said.
"Bye, have a good day." Angela said.
"You too." She called back.
She pulled on her shoes and socks and walked out the door. Hurrying to catch up to Johnny she called out to him. His pace didn't slow. Emilia sighed and looked around to see if anyone was around, it was totally deserted. She picked up her speed and was a pace behind Johnny before anyone could blink. She placed a hand on his shoulder.
"Johnny, stop."
He just shook her hand off and continued walking.
"Johnny." She said again grabbing his arm and spinning him around.
"What?" he snapped.

She raised an eyebrow, an unasked question floating between them.
Johnny's face softened. "Sorry, I just hate mornings."
She blinked lazily at him, knowing that wasn't the whole truth. He bit his lip and looked down at the ground. "You know my girlfriend." he said, still looking at the ground. "I've never had a girlfriend. I don't know what..." He trailed off.
Emilia's mouth quirked up at the side. "So what you're saying is that you need my help."
Johnny looked up. "No." he exclaimed, "Maybe. Okay yes."
Emilia grinned slinging an arm around his shoulder.
"Well for starters, you're going to walk her to school."
They took a right and headed down Bronté's street. "When you talk to her look into her eyes and always smile around her, even if its just a light smile. Hold her hand when you can, and call her beautiful not sexy."
They were two homes down from her house. "Every morning I'll give you some more pointers. Bye, have a good day." Emilia said leaving him just as Bronté walked out. Emilia smiled and waved to her, receiving the same back.
"Hey, Johnny." Bronté said coming to a stop next to him.
"Good morning!" He said giving her a hug and a kiss on the cheek. She stood there in surprise for a moment before talking hold of his hand and walking in the direction of the school. A goofy smile stuck on Johnny's face as Emilia past them in her friends car, grinning at him.
