It happened when Emilia was studying. She didn't really need to study, she already knew everything about WWI. There was a sharp tapping on her window. She dismissed it to be a bird, but when the tapping continued after a few minutes she went over to have look. She unlocked the window and pushed it up. It made a terrible creaking sound making her wince. She stuck her head out of the window and looked around. A salty breeze ruffled the silk shades on either side of her. It stirred her long, wavy hair, misplacing it. Emilia inhaled the salty air, which calmed her. She looked out over the beach. It was dark and the moon shone on the flat water, making it sparkle, making it look magical. She could have stood there for hours just watching the calm waves roll in, but she had work to do. She left the window open, letting the breeze blow through her room. Just as she was about to sit down, a small dark figure flew into her room. It landed on the end of her bed and chirped, a high pitched sound that peirced her ears. She slowly walked over to it, flicking on the large over head light. It chirped again, a bit more agitated. As she reached the end if the bed she realized two things, it was a blackbird and it had a small piece of paper rolled up, attached to its tiny leg.

"Hello, there," she said to the bird while getting closer. "Is that for me?"

The bird chirped again, as if to say yes. She rested her finger just above the birds feet so it could jump up onto her finger. The bird lightly jumped up onto her finger and chirped quietly. Emilia patted the birds wings softly, she saw that it had a metallic green wing, that almost blended in with the black. She admired it for a moment before releasing the piece of paper from the birds leg. She propped the bird up onto her shoulder and sat down on the bed. She unrolled the piece if paper to see a sentence scrawled in cursive.

Meet me at the rock pools at 11

~Myles

Emilia contemplated whether or not she should go. She came up with so many excuses not to go and so many reasons to go. It wasn't a long walk, 10 minutes at the most, but what if he wasn't there? Not just anyone would send a blackbird with a note attached to it, in 1888 cursive with the name Myles at the bottom if the note. Emilia had completely forgotten about the bird. She turned her face to face it, still sitting on her shoulder.

"What do you think, blackbird?" She asked. "Should I go?"

She got two sharp, almost defensive, chirps back. Taking that as a yes she grinned and nodded.

"Let's go see what Myles wants, huh?" She said standing up and walking over to her closet. She was already wearing a sun dress and it was still warm out, so she wouldn't need a jumper. She slipped on her flip flops and walked quietly towards her bedroom door. She slipped out of her room while turning the light off. Emilia hadn't snuck out in years and she got an exciting thrill out of doing it this time. She checked her watch before continuing sneeking out, it was five to eleven. She slipped past Anglers room, her door was open a crack, but there was no light on. Deciding that the laundry would be the best way out without making a sound she walking in the opposite direction of Anglers room towards the laundry. First she had to get past Johnny's room, his light was still on and his door was wide open. She scurried to the edge of the door frame and slowly poked her head around. Johnny wasn't in there. Emilia assumed he was down stairs getting a drink. She made her way to the laundry quietly and quickly. She could've been out of the house within a second. That was one of the advantages being half demon, speed. Emilia was faster than most other half demons she'd met, which was only 3 others. She knew she was faster because her father was the most powerful demon of all. Emilia slipped into the laundry, at the same time as someone scurried through the door. It was dark in the laundry and the only light came from the moon. She ducked back into the shadows to watch the person loudly walk past. She grabbed them from behind, one hand covering their mouth the other around their torso. She dragged the struggling and kicking person back outside onto the small veranda that was attached to the laundry. She noticed that the person was a boy and that she recognized the hair. She spun him around to get a big surprise. It was Johnny. Emilia immediately let go of him and he pushed away from her, cursing.
