After sneaking out in the middle of the night Petchy soon realised that if he was going to find his father he needed to get a plan sorted. He could only imagine the look on his mother's face when he came back with his father! She'd finally be happy again and they could continue living out their lives in peace and happiness! With this in his mind Petchy quickly found somewhere to figure out his plan. The only place he'd ever even been outside of his village was a class trip to the Scroggin Government. Perhaps that would be a good place to start, he thought. But even this simple journey would be a couple days walk and he won't have the luxury of his accommodation already planned out and bought for him. He'd better get going straight away.
It was only early morning when Petchkrin has gotten far enough out his village to be completely out in open space. He was slightly hungry by this time so he ate a little of his rations but still wanted to make sure that there was some left for the days ahead. Around midday he came across a village. It was eerily quiet and to Petchy's horror it looked like most of it had been burned down. No-one was around and it seemed as though the shadows were following him through the village. "Hello?" Petchy called. "Is there anyone here? I would like to purchase food for my long journey!" His words were met with silence and a distant echo of his call. This is so weird. He thought, all the villagers have completely vanished. He decided that it would be a good idea to quickly go through some of the buildings to see if he could find any food, his own rations were slowly disappearing.
After going through around 7 or 8 houses Petchy had found a few loaves of bread, a good amount of vegetables and some strange, snowy white substance in a little container. The label read 'yoghurt', he had no idea what this might be but it listed the ingredients so Petchy guessed that it had to be food. He unpacked and repacked his tiny bag and headed back out to continue his journey, memories of the burnt village and what could have caused it, still in his mind, chilling him through to his bones. Some raiders must have passed through the village and taken all the almonds. I must be careful, some of them might still be lurking around. He thought to himself.
He continued on his journey more carefully from that point, worried about what may happen to him. He looked to the west of the Scroggin packet and the sun was slowly setting, he stopped for a second to admire the view and realized just how tired he was. He decided he needed to find a spot to rest soon. Looking up and down the path he spotted a small bunch of reeds to his left. He stepped off the track and went to go flatten the reeds and put his blanket on it. Using his rucksack as a pillow and snuggling down against the wind he fell asleep.
