White lights draped all over the football field, giving the fair a romantic feeling. It was set to start in just under an hour and Kaden and I had just finished putting the last minute touches on our booth. I couldn't deny the fact that I was nervous to work with Kaden, especially with the little episode that occurred between me and him the other day. I could feel an awkward tension in the air, but we both kept the conversation casual and light. In the distance, I could see Luke waving to me; a big smile plastered onto his face. Unfortunately for him, he ended up with the water dunking tank as his stand and he was the dunkie. I felt bad, considering that it was really chilly tonight and he was bound to be dropped into a tank of freezing cold water at least once by the end of the night.
After a while the PA system screeched to life and Principle Remy's voice poured through, announcing the start of the fair,
"Welcome, welcome the time has come to present to you this year’s annual fair! Make sure to be safe, but ultimately have fun! Now let the games begin!"
With that, students came pouring in and the lines began to form around every stand. A group of snobby girls went to Kaden's line, applying lip gloss before making their way up to him. I rolled my eyes at them, as they were practically drooling over the thought of being able to kiss him. Distracted from their presence, I didn't even notice that I had a customer.
"Violet?" A squeaky voice asked.
Startled, I looked up to find Brandon Ferd from my last years AP calculus class peering down at me through his black-framed glasses. He seemed really nervous, as his cheeks were flushed red.
"Hey Brandon, how are you liking the fair so far?" I smiled, hoping to calm his nerves a bit.
"Ahh ya it's good I guess. Look Violet, my friends over by the lemonade stand kinda forced me to come over here. They bet me that I couldn't get a girl to kiss me, even if I paid her." He whispered to me, barley audible.
I looked over to see a group of guys staring at us with intent, edging Brandon to continue on with it by making cat calls towards us. They seemed like the type of guys who would dare their friends to do something, but wouldn't ever do it themselves.
I knew what I had to do to shut them up and Brandon seemed like a nice kid, but I knew he wouldn't ever build up enough courage to lean in and kiss me himself. So instead, I did what every respectable teenage girl would do. I grabbed the back of his head, pulling him down to me and kissed the living life out of him. All the while, making sure his friends got a good view.
Eventually I let go of Brandon, seeing that he was going to pass out at any given second. He was flustered and his cheeks were an even deeper shade of red then before. He stumbled back a little, keeping his wide eyes focused on me.
"Wow um-err ah thanks Violet, here's the ah money." He stuttered, fumbling with the change in his hand.
I rest my hand on his chest stopping him and leaned towards his ear and whispered "It's on the house," to add affect.
