I was around 10 years old when I saw this movie. As a 10 year old, I didn't quite understand what the movie was really about. I loved musicals, and I do to this day. But, what I never realized, is that "the blacks" and "the whites", were seperated. I remember asking my step mommy, "Why are the seperated?". She told me that; back in history people who weren't white were seperated from those who were. That same year I learned racism. But that's another story. Anyways, it always stood out to me that, someone who was Caucasian, would stand up for black people. And although she knew she would get into trouble for her "rebelious acts", she proceed to stand up for what she felt was right.
