We left the house early. It was about to be seven in the morning. The orange sun shone down on us as we walked to school. The peaceful wind sounded like nature's music. It's warm presence made me feel strangely calm. I love being on the outside. I've missed it so much. I'm glad I have the opportunity to be out again. Today, everything will be happy. I will make sure of it. A warm blissful feeling washed over me. My friends will help me, too.
Once we arrived school, Cameron and Oliver went to their homerooms. Austin stayed with me to help me open my locker and memorize my schedule. The hallways were empty, since we were early. That's good because Austin was making a racket. A hilarious one at that.
"No! Arrghh! This locker hates me!" Austin said turning its dial multiple times. I giggled and watched Austin's concentrated face focus on the lock. I already have it down, but Austin can't seem to get it.
"Hey, let it go. We'll try later. " I said with a big smile on my face. Austin huffed and jokingly slammed his fist into the locker beside mine. I rolled my eyes and laughed.
"You can go ahead. I'll catch up ONCE I OPEN THIS FUCKING LOCKER!" Austin complained. I laughed and patted his back. He bit his lip and put his ear to the locker. I turned my head to the side and stared.
"I.... I really don't think that's reasonable because you already know the cod-"
"Shhhh.... I almost have it!"
"But......"
"MOTHER FUCKER. OPEN YOU DAMN LOCKER!!"
My laughter echoed through the halls. Austin's red face looked the other way. I smiled and stepped in front of him. I opened my locker with ease. Austin stared at me with wide eyes and an open mouth. I laughed, winked, and started to walk away. As I turned the corner I could hear Austin mumble something about the "damned bitch ass locker".
I reached my classroom but no one was there. The lights weren't even on. Where did Oli go? I began to get nervous and look around. What do I do now? Would I get in trouble if I stay here? That's how it was when I was in grade school. I walked in tiny circles before going to Cameron's hallway.
After a few turns and dead ends I realized I was lost. I started to sweat and get nervous. I rubbed my the palm of my hand with my thumb and sighed. It was something my mother used to do to calm us. I'm not sure why she used this method, but right now it's keeping me from panicking. Maybe a student will come over here.... Yeah.
I walked around with my eyes closed. Think of happy thoughts, Christopher. I opened my eyes and I was in a hallway I've never seen before. The only thing that stood out was a teenage boy putting his things away. I could recognize that Auburn hair anywhere. Ethan. I timidly walked up to him. I shouldn't be here... Would he get mad? I stood a few inches away from his locker and shyly cleared my throat.
"E-Ethan...." I said trying not to sound nervous. Ethan immediately stopped what he was doing. He looked at me with wide curious eyes. It soon changed when our eyes locked.
"What the fuck are you doing here?"
