Because I feel his pain. For years I felt alone and isolated (I still do from time to time). This is due to that fact that I have three older siblings and the one who is closes to my age is currently 20, while I'm siting here in my first year of high school. While I was growing up, I didn't have anyone to play with, school didn't help. I felt that everyone hated me...at least now I have friends that I can talk to. Dirk had a similar predicament, instead of three older siblings though? He had a puppet and self made robots.
I'm also like Dirk because he cares deeply for his friends and will do anything to help them, he's suffered so much...he's such a deep character....I can relate.
Plus, I'm a bit of an Otaku xD and I love Rainbowdash.

Piper is a daughter of Aphrodite, she was basically born to be a frilly, make-up wearing, flirting princess, but she prooved everyone wrong. She beat the stereotype to the ground. Piper is like me because we are both careing of our friends and family, we both have simaler style, and tastes, we also know how to take down bullies (*cough* Drew*cough)
Piper is a strong character, and I am proud to have similarities towards her.

His is more of a, 'always stoic, cool kid' facade while mine is a,' I'm alright, hah thats hilarious! It doesn't hurt me' facade.
Dave is also a huge dork once you dig a little deeper and gain his trust, as for me? I'm a huge dork no matter what xD!
Also (I can say this about Dirk too) his eyes. He hates them as far as we know, its why he covers them up...thats what I struggle with too...I don't hide my eyes...but I don't like them...
