Pain Inside

As Yuki led me down the hallway, she was still gripping onto my uniform sleeve. She didn't speak for a while, but I could tell she was deep in thought. After a while she uttered a word.

"Why..."

Looking at her I asked her what it was she was going to say. But her reply was

"No... Nothing"

After that she stayed silent for ages, still leading me down the corridor. She was thinking of something, but she was too afraid to ask me. 'Probably because she'll think I'll get angry' I thought to myself. As we continued down the corridor her hair was fluttering behind her, her neck was exposed. I could hear her heartbeat. 'Thump'... 'Thump'... 'Thump' I jerked my hand away from her, and placed it on my neck. Yuki turned around in shock and said

"Oh, I'm sorry, I've been dragging you along all this time"

Looking at her I replied "It's... It's fine"

"Zero?" She asked, eyes full of worry and concern. But I didn't answer, instead I headed onward, not looking back.

-Class- 

It was dusk, and it was the end of class. Looking up from the back of the room, I could see and hear the girls all talking about which guy they were going to give their chocolates to. Yuki and her best friend Yori, were sat in front of me.

"Everyone seems so excited" Yori said to Yuki. Her face showing no expression.

"Why, your not giving a chocolate to anyone?" Yuki replied.

"No, not really, I prefer someone from the Day Class anyway" She said, with a cheery smile. "How about you Yuki?"

"Oh no, I'm not bothered either" She said, shuffling to the side to hide something under her arm.

"I can see the ribbon Yuki" Yori said with a slight chuckle.

I had seen and heard enough to know what Yuki was going to do, standing up I said to her

"Your a member of the Disciplinary Committee, yet your giving that to him?"

-Dusk-

It was time for the exchange of the chocolates. Gates were set up along the side of the path, and each of the Night Class Vampires had their own gate to go to, which were lined up with countless Day Class girls, ready to offer their gift's. The following moments seemed to happen slowly, it seemed to take forever for them to go through everyone. There was no reason for me to stay towards the end, so I walked away and left Yuki by herself, I couldn't be near her for long... I didn't want to hurt her... 

Later on, I decided to take a walk through the halls of our building, as I couldn't sleep. Soon, I couldn't stand anymore. Falling against a wall my breathing got heavier, dragging my nails across the wall left faint scratch marks, but I still continued to walk on. Reaching the end of the corridor I fell against a curtain, using the material to lower me down to the floor I sat there, trying to get my breathing under control.

"Ignoring it and running away won't change what's happening" I heard a voice say. It was the Chairman. "I don't know why you insist on pushing yourself to the limit like this"

"Shut up" I replied back, but I knew he was right. I tried to stand up, but immediately the pain erupted within my chest again, sending me to collapse onto the floor and hold my sides. Sighing the Chairman held out a glass of water and a tablet.

"Here, take this, It'll ease the pain"

Looking at the tablet my heartbeat increased, the noise in my head getting louder and louder and... 'Smash' I swiped the glass of water away, sending glass and water pouring over me and the floor.

"Never" I muttered, looking at the floor.

"Nowadays the attacks are occurring more frequently, if you continue like this, the pain will only get worse for you. You do understand Zero? That you can never go back?"

I didn't have to hear those words. I knew what was happening to me, but I had to accept it. I didn't want anyone to find out, because I want Yuki to remember me what I was, not what I was becoming...
