Tainted Heart

As I bit down into her soft and smooth flesh, the sweet yet metallic taste of her blood flooded my senses. It filled my hunger that had been growing in my heart since that night over 4 years ago. As I drank, the beast inside of me wanted more, it needed to kill... To feed and drain the life of it's prey. I sank my teeth in deeper, taking more of her blood and gulping it down, tasting like honey in my mouth and on my tongue.

Inside, the human part of me that had been pushed into the darkest corner of my mind when my inner self had broken free, was screaming out to me "Stop! No more! Your going to kill her!", But the monster was in control now... I suddenly heard Yuki's voice, screaming for me to let go, I felt her hand grasp around me, pulling herself from my grasp, before grabbing my chest and pushing me away from her. She yelled out and stumbled back, holding onto the wooden banister for support as she gripped her neck.

I stumbled back, standing up I raised my hand towards my mouth and wiped away some of the blood that was stained around my lips, though much of it was on my chin and neck. My eyes were glowing a dark crimson red, the eyes of a monster... Yuki was looking at my fangs that were protruding from my mouth, also stained with her blood.

Removing my hand from my face I stood upright, my eyes trained on the floor. I didn't move, I couldn't. The pure relief of satisfying my hunger was absolute. But at the same time my emotions were clawing at my mind at what I had just done. 

Yuki continued to stare at me in my hideous and blood-soaked form when she whispered

"Why..." Before allowing her hand to slip from the wound on her neck, allowing fresh blood to drip onto the wooden floor. 

The sound of her blood hitting the floor caused my reactions to raise my head and look at her. For the first time my human side was able to regain control, and looking at her for what seemed like the first time though human eyes, my head jerked and my eyes went wide. The bloodlust in my eyes faded, and my face turned into shock and dismay.

"Yuki..." I said, raising my hand towards my face, before turning my head to the side and closing my eyes. "I'm sorry..." I said again, my voice sad and heartbroken. 

Yuki didn't move, she continued to stand there at the stairs, as if she was trying to piece together what had just happened. Facing her I took a step forward, saying her name again I tried to talk to her.

"I..." I began, but as I attempted to approach her, she took a step back before raising her hand to her face. And for the first time I saw that she was... Afraid of me... 

Before I could try and explain, I heard a voice call Yuki's name. It was Kaname. As he approached us I could see his eyes avert to Yuki, then avert to the blood that was stained on me. Yuki turned around and said

"Kaname-Senpai" She muttered. 

I turned to face Kaname as he spoke to me

"Have you finally succumbed to the beast that craves blood, Zero Kiryu?" He asked, the tone of his voice harsh as he stepped in front of Yuki, as if trying to protect her from the man... No, the Vampire before her. 

Suddenly Yuki rushed out from behind Kaname, screaming for him to stop, but this sudden act caused her to loose her balance and fall onto me. I caught her in my arms and looked down at her, my eyes wide to see if she was ok.

"Yuki?" I asked, to see if she was awake, but she had finally fell unconsciousness.

Kaname approached her and continued speak to me as he picked Yuki up in his arms.

"You must have been merciless in your craving for blood. You took so much that Yuki cannot even stand" He said, standing up with Yuki in his arms, his eyes narrowed at me with a glare that was all too familiar.

"Was Yuki's blood so... Delicious?" He asked.

The realization that whilst I was in a state of the Vamperic Bloodlust, I had almost lost control over the scent and taste. I raised my hand to my face, as if trying to shield myself from what I had just done. As Kaname headed back up the stairs, I stood in my place a while longer, before the face of the Headmaster appeared at the top of the stairs. He looked down at me, his face fixed in a concerned way as he walked down towards me.

"Come Zero, let's go" He said, walking past I followed as he took me to my dorm room, from where I proceeded to stay until I had come to terms with what I had just done... With what I had just done... To Yuki...
