The Beast Within

It was the end of class, having to stay behind again everyone else had left before we had awoken. Sighing I stood up and pushed my chair backwards, knowing that the Day Class girls would be already trying to take pictures of the Night Class again, causing a riot as usual. Placing my hands in my pockets I walked down the aisle, waking Yuki up as I did so.

"Hey Yuki, I'm going now to do my duties, once your extra classes are over, hurry up and join me"

Yawning Yuki lifted her head up off the desk and stretched.

"Ok then, see you later" She replied, a faint smile on her face.

Before I left through the doors, out of the corner of my eye I noticed Yuki studying me carefully, her mouth opened to speak, but she closed it, deciding it was best not to say anything. As I walked down the corridor, I could feel that, something wasn't quite right. As I continued walking forward I could see Kaname heading in my direction.

"I didn't expect to meet you here Kiryu" Kaname said to me. "Yuki isn't with you today?" He asked again. I didn't stop to talk with him, but continued to walk past him and say

"She has extra classes today, Kuran"

Suddenly Kaname stopped walking, turning back he then asked me

"Kiryu... How are you feeling?"

My eyes shot open, turning around I glared at him. Why did he ask that? Showing no signs of enjoyment or happiness he lowed his head and walked away, saying one last thing to me.

"Take care now" And then he was gone.

-Later on-

It was night, but I wasn't on patrol as usual. I was stood on the stairs inside the Headmaster's Building. The sounds were getting louder in my head, the thumping of my heart was increasing and so was my breathing. I could smell blood, it was all around me. No doubt Yuki was outside, wondering where I was, but I couldn't see her, I didn't want her to see me, like this... Then an agonizing pain exploded within my chest again, sending me into the pillar which separated the stairs. Sliding down the wood I sat on the floor, gripping my chest. I held my hands there until the pain went away. Then raising my hands to my head I kept them there, covering my ears, trying to block any sounds that I might hear. My breathing was becoming more ragged, holding my hand to my throat I inhaled deep breaths of air, trying to calm myself down. 

I tried to stand up, but I had to use the pillar for support. Leaning over the side I suddenly heard footsteps coming my way, I knew it was Yuki, I could have known that a mile away, but I didn't want to turn around, so instead I just stood up the best I could. From behind I must look alright, on patrol as usual, but facing me you would see that my face was a mask of pain, my eyes wide open and my body, frail and weak as the pain didn't cease. Then I heard the footsteps stop.

"Zero, I..." Yuki said, pausing for a while. When she spoke again she seemed sad, almost sympathetic. "I think i'm finally understanding a bit of what you've been saying. There are scary Vampires out there, but the one that I saw those years ago, no, that wasn't a Vampire, that was just a beast that took human form"

Those words made my fingers twitch, as I knew what I was... Inside...

"Stay back!" I suddenly shouted.

"W, why? I still want to talk with you, I want you to tell me more about you, after all, we are the sa..."

"No we aren't! We aren't..."

"Sorry, I was thinking selfishly, thinking that I was fighting the same pains and fears as you Zero. I was just being full of myself"

I turned around, ready to tell her to wait on, to say I was sorry.

"Yuki wait..."

I grabbed her wrist. She had a bandage on her hand, which came loose as I stopped her from running away. The bandage unraveled, revealing fresh blood from her wound. I gasped, my breathing becoming ragged once more, the smell of her blood was intoxicating, it flooded my senses, I couldn't concentrate or control what I was about to do next.

I pulled her towards me, turning her around so I was behind her. One of my hands grabbed hers, holding one at her waist. The other was holding her neck. My head and hers turned to the side, leaning down towards her neck I opened my mouth, my tongue lightly licked her neck.

"Z... Zero?" Yuki gasped, staring in horror at me, but I didn't stop, I couldn't stop, I didn't want to stop...

Opening my mouth wider I could feel my fangs growing in hunger and desperation, my stomach growled, before Yuki could do anything I breathed in a last breath of air, and sunk my fangs deep into her neck...
