Looking at the girl he so desperately wanted to find again, Asher was left stumped. He couldn't find his voice to answer her question, but it felt as if a huge weight was lifted from his shoulder when she put down the vase. It meant that she felt less threatened by him, even if it was only a tiny bit.
He could still see in her eyes that there was a sense of fear and apprehension. And all Asher wanted to do was remove those negative expressions from her face, and to so so he should probably start by answering her question. Seconds ticked by and both of them didn't say anything. The only sounds that could be heard was the wind and the cricket sounds.
Asher knew he had to break the silence, so he awkwardly shuffled his legs before saying, "Should we go sit inside before I tell you?"
Juliet's eyes narrowed slightly, and scanned the area in front of them before letting him in. He could see that she was anxious to close herself from the outside world, and encapsulate herself within these four walls. The house seemed cozy and warm. The interior almost seemingly inviting you in to stay forever.
"Now, tell me how did you find me?" Juliet's voice rang out, pulling Asher's attention from the house.
"Yeah, about that..." Asher didn't know where his confidence went, but he knew that he had to tread carefully. His usual arrogance and confidence could potentially cause this beauty in front of him to cower away and hide from him again.
"I asked one of my friend to hack into surveillance cameras and send his drones to find your whereabouts." Asher said, looking at Juliet's reactions intently. He was wary of how she would feel about his intrusive ways.
"Why?" came her reply. He could see that she was trying to take it all in. He could sense her fear rising bit by bit.
"I don't know... all I know is that I wanted to make sure you were safe." was the only answer Asher could give her right now. He didn't know why he was searching for her or what he was going to do now that he found her.
He saw Juliet's eyes run over his face, trying to see whether he was telling the truth or not while he simply couldn't take his eyes off her. Their eyes met, and in it reflected a connection that neither could explain.
A shrill ring broke the moment that they shared. Asher noticed that it was his phone that had rang. Quickly glancing at Juliet, Asher picked up his phone.
"Asher, get out of there," came Logan's voice from the other side.
"What? Why?"
"There are men about 30 feet away from the house you are in. And they are holding guns. Get out of the house and run towards the opposite direction where you came from. One mile from there, I will send Eric to pick you up till then I will distract them."
Asher looked at Juliet, processing the new information that gave a forewarning of the storm headed their way.
"Juliet, grab your important belongings, we have to leave now."
"But why?"
"Just do as I say. You wouldn't want to meet whoever is coming this way."
Despite the lack of information, Juliet grabbed her belongings not that there was much to gather. She was shaking slightly due to fear and the sudden chilling breeze that seemed to run down her spine. Noticing the alarmed expression and the slight shivering of her body, Asher grabbed her hand and pulled her towards him. The sudden action caused Juliet to suck in her breath.
"Don't worry! I won't let anyone hurt you," Asher promised confidently and looked at her so intently, that Juliet could feel her knees go weak. If not for Asher holding onto her , she feared that she may have fallen down. Maybe it was the way he said it or the way his eyes seemed to hold her own, she believed him. With a slight nod of her head, Juliet pulled back slightly, though her hand was still held in Asher's hand. She didn't want to let go and it seemed neither did Asher.
"Is there a back door?" Asher asked her.
Again nodding her head, she pulled him towards the direction of the kitchen and off they went running towards a direction where Juliet didn't know what awaited her.
