Tyler and Jenna lied together on her bed, silence hanging between them. He stared at her ceiling, which she had painted to resemble the night sky. Her eyes were locked on their intertwined hands, catching the slightest tremble in his fingers.
"Are you okay?" Jenna asked, breaking the silence. You can hide behind noise, she reasoned within her head. Silence brings out the worst in us.
"I'm holding up." Tyler mumbled, his eyes still fixed on the ceiling. There was emptiness in them, but still filled with everything in the way they were searching for something.
