Brainstorming

Every story starts with an idea.

Without ideas, we wouldn't even have stories to write and read and enjoy.

So, naturally, you can't start writing a story without an idea.

Coming up with ideas can be difficult sometimes. I've had many frustrated nights where I just couldn't come up with any ideas.

My advice to you is to just try and let the ideas come naturally.

For example, I came up with the idea for one of my original stories when I was just sitting in my history class when I was in the eighth grade.

A lot of times, you'll come up with ideas just by observing the things around you.

The idea for your next story could be resting on a blade of grass in the form of a drop of morning dew. So don't be afraid to just look around and hopefully you'll come up with something.

Now, say you're in a creative writing class or workshop or whatever and you have an assignment due and you need ideas.

One of the many, many things I hated about the creative writing class I took last year were the deadlines.

These are terrible when you don't work well under pressure.

I suggest that you go to your teacher or whoever is in charge and ask them for help. Ask your friends and peers too.

Other people's ideas can help spark yours. My best friend is a genius; she has so many ideas when we discuss each other's stories, and we end up talking about them for hours at a time.

Also there are tons of websites out there that generate ideas for you!

I don't usually use those websites, so I can't recommend any, but if you know any good ones, please tell us in the comments below!

Overall, just relax and let the ideas come to you. Talk to other people. Go search the web for generators. You're bound to find a great idea for your next story.

Was this helpful? Comment "yes" or "no" please, and if you would like, explain why! The point of this book is to help people, and I would hate to fail at helping you with your writing.
