Alice stared straight forward as the question she had been asked mulled through her mind over and over. She knew she had to be careful when answering it because she would be admitting defeat to one side. Both demons and reapers lived for eternity. Both were natural born killers. Though one killed to preserve souls where the other killed to consume them. One killed because a human's story was ending, the other was compelled to kill to stay alive or preserve its very existence so it wouldn't fade away. One was free when the other relied on contracts in most situations. Both were powerful and fearsome. The thought had crossed her mind before and she wondered what Sebastian would think if she ever became a reaper by choice.
She blinked frowning, 'why would his opinion of what side I chose even matter, either way he would be a pest for eternity no matter what side I chose since he seems to get along with reapers unlike that other weird butler.' She mused before looking at her lover and choosing her next words very carefully.
"I think I would choose to be a reaper, mainly because they only take lives of those whose stories are at their limit, they preserve the souls they collect so they can rest in peace in the end." She gave a gentle smile as she looked at the Undertaker. "Don't misunderstand me both sides are ruthless by nature but I would be able to live with myself if what I was doing actually had a purpose."
Undertaker chuckled nuzzling his nose deeper into her neck. "As a demon you would also have a purpose my dear." He teased her.
Alice chuckled. "Hmm but as a demon in order to have a purpose you need to have a master and I don't do to good following the whims and orders of others." She rested her cheek against Undertakers silver hair sighing softly. "I don't want to be an existence where I have to be acknowledged to be useful."
Undertaker smiled taking her hand gently and placing kisses on her knuckles. You know my dear I sense something deep within you, you would make an excellent reaper, in league with myself even though you would be so young, however I would not allow you to be trained under William T. Spears." He gave a dry chuckle.
Alice chuckled and looked at those wonderful eyes of his. "Hmm and why is that?"
Undertaker gave a crooked sort of frown as he looked at Alice. "Well you will be such a fine specimen as a reaper he may feel the need to try and woe you, female reapers are extremely rare my dear, a one in a million chance of actually finding one. And you are already so beautiful I would not be surprised if some of them are even watching you already due to Grell and his incapability to keep things to himself."
Alice laughed, "Ah but Grell is a special one, he still thought I was a love rival that silly fool. But even with his rather strange quirks he has helped me out of some sticky situations before so I owe him many thanks."
Undertaker looked at her, curiosity sparkling in his eyes. "He has helped you? That's rather odd as he usually only thinks of himself."
Alice shook her head laughing a bit. "When I was staying by the little Earl, Sebastian wouldn't leave me alone, so Grell was under the impression that I was trying to steal him. At the ball when you were called to speak in private I was left with Sebastian and I ran from him after asking Grell to help me so I could look for you. Grell makes a lovely distraction when needed so I do owe him many thanks." She chuckled darkly.
Undertaker smirked slinging and arm around Alice pulling her close and chuckled. "It would seem you have a rather wicked side to you my dear that you hide rather well. To use a reaper to help you out run a demon, that's rather impressive." He mused.
"And it never fails either." Alice added giggling softly.
The weather hadn't subsided as the two sat chatting together in the comfort of the mansion. Though it was very quiet they didn't seem to mind as it left them uninterrupted though most of the night they weren't alone as a familiar pair of glowing pink eyes watched them from the shadows.
Scowling Sebastian growled lowly under his breath as he watched the undertaker show affection to Alice. It was as if nothing had changed since the day she met them both. He had originally met her first after all he was the one who had found her. Yet she still hardly ever gave him the time of day unless she was sick, injured or intoxicated. Undertaker was correct though, no matter what side she chose she would live for eternity. Yet seen her as a reaper agitated him to no end, he wanted her as a demon, all to himself and he knew the path she would have to walk to join either of them. He wasn't ready to have his lovely human snatched from him and changed so he came up with a plan as he watched them. Smirking he sat wondering if it would work, all he could do was wait and see once he decided to put it to motion.
Alice had lost track of time, she felt drowsy as she giggled at the stories the undertaker told her. She soon found herself sleeping soundly as Undertaker played with strands of her hair. Slowly he picked her up bridal style and carried her to her room placing her in her bed before he disappeared out her window to see what was happening at his mortuary.
He opened the door and locked it instantly not wanting anyone to disturb him yet he knew he wasn't alone as he turned to find Sebastian watching him closely.
"Hmm what brings you here on this fine night Sebastian?" he mumbled giddily.
Sebastian gave a demonic grin as he watched the reaper. "Oh you know exactly why I am here shinigami. I will not allow what you plan to do to Alice." He purred as he eyed the man before him.
Undertaker burst into a fit of giggles as he held himself up against a coffin. "Do pray tell how you are going to stop me when she already made the choice herself?"
Sebastian glowered at the man, eyes narrowed.
"Speechless I see," the giddy man taunted. "It would seem the human heart isn't as complicated as one makes it out to be, she seems rather sure of herself and her decision as well, she never took a liking to you and no matter what I choose to do she will never believe what you tell her. Just give up already we both know who she has chosen Sebastian." He smirked, eyes narrowing dangerously.
Sebastian growled lowly as he watched the reaper. "This is far from over I will win Alice over from you no matter what it takes." He warned as he dissipated into the shadows surrounding him.
Undertaker stood alone in his mortuary smirking wildly. "Ah how I do love a good challenge."
