"Hey, Steve?"
"Yeah, Phil?"
"What should we go as tomorrow night?" Phil wondered aloud, wandering into the bedroom where Steve was sprawled out on the bed.
"Rock stars." Steve replied sarcastically. Phil ignored the comment.
"What about vampires? You'd be a sexy vampire. Oh wait! Better idea!"
"What?" Steve flicked his eyes over to Phil, half-wanting to hear more about how sexy he was.
"I'll be back in twenty!"
Like poof, Phil was out the door. Steve sat up on the bed, shaking his head and laughing softly.
The blonde stretched, running his fingers through his slightly-knotted hair. Remembering that he was only in his boxers, he then realized he was cold.
Steve tugged out a broken-in pair of blue jeans and a black t-shirt. He slipped into the clothes, then trotted down the hallway to the bathroom.
He smoothed his bed-head, brushing out his hair, adding in hair spray and curling it just so. Perfect.
Phil always liked it when he put more effort into his look.
He sprayed some cologne on for the hell of it, brushing his teeth and heading into the kitchen.
Steve was halfway through making morning tea for the two of them when Phil burst through the front door, two large bags in hand.
"Phil, what have you gone and done now?" He laughed to himself, walking over to his excited boyfriend.
"Costumes!" Phil grinned, holding out one apparently for Steve.
"The Joker? Oh my god." Steve laughed, looking at Phil's, which was labeled "male Harley Quinn".
"Yeah! We can match!" Phil was much more excited about this than Steve had expected, but he grinned nonetheless and peered into the bag in Phil's hand.
"It's makeup." Phil giggled.
"Good grief."
•
Steve stared at Phil as his boyfriend painted the red smile on his cheeks. His face had already become completely white, eyes blackened out.
He just didn't want to wear the wig.
After complaining about that, Phil had bought him wash-out green dye.
Steve just went along with it.
They were going over to Joe's that night for a Halloween party. There'd be food. Steve was excited about the food part.
Not so much walking out of the house with more makeup on than Mötley Crüe, although he could deal because the pants Phil was wearing made his ass look hot.
"Yeah, I knew you'd be a hot Joker." Phil giggled, turning him around to look in the mirror.
Steve flipped up the collar on his purple overcoat, smoothing out the green shirt underneath.
"That's kind of kinky, Phil, but whatever you're into is fine." Steve joked, flashing a smile at his boyfriend.
"Oh, shut up!" Phil laughed, posing in the mirror next to him. Steve gave his butt a gentle smack.
"C'mon, babe; stop messin' around. We gotta go if we wanna be on time."
Phil ignored him, so Steve took the time to observe him. Even in tight black-and-red pants and a matching vest, hair tucked into a jester's cap, he still looked beautiful.
"Hold on, we forgot to black out your eyes." Steve paused, quickly applying the black makeup to his lover's face.
"Let's go!" Phil grinned, leading the way out the front door excitedly. At least Joe's place was close enough to walk to.
Steve glanced around the neighborhood, smiling to himself at all the children darting from house to house in full costume. They were all having such a great time, it boosted his mood.
Phil's hand found Steve's, gently joining together. Steve's gaze shifted over to Phil, who smiled sweetly, blushing. The older of the two still felt flustered after all the time they'd been together.
Steve leaned in, gently pressing their lips together while trying not to smudge their lips.
Phil blushed more, but it couldn't be seen under all the makeup.
"I love you, Joker." Phil laughed, smiling broadly at his boyfriend.
"I love you, too, Harley." Steve played along, chuckling.
Their hands remained together the entire walk.
Steve led the way into Joe's garage, where tables had been set up with food and drink. The radio was playing the best rock station in their town, and Van Halen's Panama was blasting through Joe's cheap speakers.
"Hey, guys!" A man in a hockey mask sauntered up to them. The man pulled off the mask to reveal the gorgeous face of Sav.
"Hey, Sav. Jason, eh? I almost would expect you to bedazzle the costume before you wore something so dull." Steve started off the conversation with some light banter as Phil looked elsewhere.
Joe was pouring punch into a large bowl, and Rick was eating a sandwich on the other side of the garage.
The garage itself had been hastily decorated, probably by Joe and Sav, and was covered in fake spiderwebs and pinup Halloween creatures on the walls. And by pinup, they were duct taped. The lights were all off, but orange and purple lanterns surrounded the room and lit it fairly well. Phil had been tempted to buy some of those at the dollar store last week, but wasn't sure if they'd last.
Overall, Joe had done a good job.
The one thing that made Phil cringe, though, was the "Pin the tail on the vampire" poster on the wall. No doubt that Joe would make them play it.
Finding himself in a conversation with Rick next to the punch bowl, Steve raised his eyes to see Joe by the pin-tail poster.
"C'mon, mates, I bought this piece of shite for a reason."
Joe was never very good at convincing people to do things.
•
Sav checked his watch, yawning from his spot on top of Rick. 11:48.
At some point, they had all ended up lying on top of each other, masks tossed to the side, costumes tangled. Sav ended up near the top, thankfully. Poor Joe was feeling the brunt of it with Phil. Steve was off to the side, flopped over Phil's body, covering him entirely. Sav was almost sure he had fallen asleep. Phil was smiling up at his boyfriend, and their relationship warmed Sav's heart.
It made him think of him and Joe. They had been together for so long. It made the bassist smile softly to himself, closing his eyes as he felt Joe's embrace around his waist tighten.
I love you so much, he mentally screamed, and although Joe didn't answer, Sav's heart sped up just like if he had.
