Don't ever be afraid of change, as it is leading you to a new beginning
-unknownHaniya stood up to go call her dad when suddenly she stopped in her tracks. Her face had gone completely pale and she began sweating, her mind thoughtless, a shiver ran down her spine, she sat down on the bench with a thud, bewildered.
What was HE doing here?? Why did she ever have to see him again? Was that incident not enough????
Flashback:
I was in 11th grade at that time and our school had a partition like corridor that seperated the 12th standard and 11th standard from each other.
I was walking down that corridor unfortunately that day to go talk to some senior teacher. I was holding a book, a pen and also a bottle, Allah knows for what reason.
A group of boys were standing behind the wall. Trying to cover something. There were 5 boys. Unintentionally I heard their conversation.
"Hey why don't you try it just once
Come on man we've all tried it!" Said one boy.I heard a small mutter, "astagfirullah!"
"Hey its just one cigarette come on!" Said a short yet chubby boy.
"Its become half now!" Said another guy who was tall and probably the leader of the gang and started laughing.
Suddenly my ears shot up. They are trying to make a muslim do wrong!! Never ! Not on my watch!! Ya Allah I have to stop this! Because I remembered the ayat
And do not kill yourselves. (Quran 4:29)
And do not throw yourselves into destruction.
(Quran 2:195)Cigarette=destruction of lungs= death = opposite of the ayat!!! Ohh myyyy goddd!!!
After my little mind calculation I went slightly closer to the wall.
There was a boy with black hair it was a little messy yet messy in a stylish way, he looked hesitant at the cigarette in his hand. When he was about to bring it upto his pink lips...................I suddenly jumped from behind the wall, dashed the tall guy in front of me with my head and dropped my heavy bottle on the black haired guy's foot.
The cigarette fell down from his fingers, while he winced in pain catching his leg and jumping holding his hurt foot!
If grinning mentally was possible I was doing just that!
Meanwhile I made the most innocent face and stammered, " Ohh I am sorr....sorry ... really ...sorry! I didn't mean to....umm...really am very sorry!"I could sense some relief on his face.
After my little act of bravery I left hastily. But eventually in the same week I caught these guys again and this time I yelled on top of my voice to no one in particular," hey, I think I saw the principal come this way!"
When I peeked to see the aftereffects of my small lie, the corridor was empty. But little did I know that I was gradually digging my own grave. ......
It was a Friday and the last working day of the week that was when I had my final and dreadful encounter with the freak!
I was walking home, and suddenly saw the black haired guy, he was continuously looking around to see if there was someone following him.
I just lowered my head and walked past him. He was walking behind me and then suddenly I couldn't hear his footsteps. I turned around and I saw him turn to a narrow path between two buildings. That lane was a bit dark even in the evening.
I kept debating whether I should check up on him or not. I sensed secrecy and I got suspicious!
I should have not cared but being me
I followed.**********************
Haniya kept thinking about the black haired boy even after she had reached home. The boy had now actually coloured his hair to a dirty brown.
He had completely transformed since the past encounter. His body language had a colossal of arrogance. He wore a silver earing and wore a black skull t-shirt. Everything in him had changed but the only thing that sent tingles through her entire body when she saw him were his eyes, those eyes which had once experienced proximity with those of Haniya's. Those eyes that kindled with unspoken words. Those eyes that had once expressed something to Haniya.
What a great way to begin college! She thought to herself. She was glad she escaped before he could see her. She tried to convince herself that maybe, just maybe he wasn't studying in that same college after all.
Maybe she would never meet him again.
Time has passed and maybe he wouldn't remember her.Things had changed after all but nobody knew whether Haniya's 'maybes' would come true or would the opposite of her maybes would!
All there is to know is that life was indeed changing for Haniya from now on.
