~Lucy's POV

"This is it. This is a very big day, Happy. Hmm-mm. I'm finally gonna do it. I'm gonna ask her!" The excitement that ran through my voice was almost apparent.

"The key to this is confidence!" Happy's chest slightly broadened. "Don't waver in the question! Don't hesitate! Speak in an even but broad tone! And-."

"Lucy! Let down your hair!"
I gasped. Scrambling from my seat, I quickly began to shove Happy to my closet door.

"It's time!"

"But I wasn't finished with my speech..." Happy whined.

"I know, I know, come on, don't let her see you!"

Happy disappeared behind the door with a slight flick of his blue tail. As it shut, I quickly surveyed the room around me, checking for any last minute cleaning spots.

Nope. Good to go.

"Lucy, I'm not getting any younger down here!"

"Coming, mother!"

I opened the window door wide open, enough for my hair to fit. Swinging in below, I set my hair as a fulcrum, so as not for my hair to be pulled out. Slowly, I inched my hair upwards until I came face to face with a white haired, faired skin woman, with a black cloak drenching her shoulders.

"Welcome home, mother!" I grabbed her hand and basket as she fully entered the tower.

"Uh, Lucy! How you manage to do that every single day without fail! It looks absolutely exhausting, darling."

"Oh, it's nothing really..."

"Then I don't know why it takes so long!" Her chuckle interrupted any sort of comeback that would have come.
"Ha ha! Darling, I'm just teasing." She headed towards the big mirror.

I let out a hesitant chuckle before following her. "He-he-he yeah. Alright, so, mother, as you know, tomorrow is a very big day–"

"Lucy, look in that mirror. You know what I see? I see a strong, confident, beautiful young lady." I smiled to my reflection.

"Oh look, you're here too. Ha-ha-ha-ha-ha, I'm just teasing! Stop taking everything so seriously!"

I merely rolled my eyes. Same old, same old. Mother moved to sit at the old rocking chair, me in pursuit again.

"Okay, so mother, as I was saying, tomorrow–"

"Lucy, mother's feeling a little run-down. Would you sing for me, dear? That'll do."

I beamed. "Oh! Of course, mother."

Perfect! Now I will be able to ask her!
I moved so fast, you would have had to rewind to catch my full action. The chair and brush were shoved into place. I didn't even process what I was doing, just that this needed to go fast.

"Flowergleamandglowletyourpowershinemaketheclockreversebringbackwhatoncewasmine..."

I could barely hear Mother's outcry of "Wait!" over my speeding rehearse.

"Changethefate'sdesignsavehwathasbeenlostbringbackwhatoncewasmine!"

"Lucy!"

I swung myself around on the stool. "So, mother, earlier I was saying tomorrow's a pretty big day and you didn't really respond, so I'm just gonna tell you, it's my birthday!! Tada!!"
