Chapter 6
Rose's POV
Ashlynn and I walk back from Potions, our last class of the day.
"Ugh, it's only the first day of school and I'm already exhausted," complains Ash.
"It wasn't that bad," I say, being the nerd that I am, "We only got homework in one class and all it is is reading."
"Well you love to read and I suck at it," she complains again.
"That sounds like a you problem," I say sassily.
"It's not my fault that you're really smart and I'm stupid!"
"Whatever," I state, "I can't wait for dinner."
"Oh my God, same! I've been starving all day," she says.
"You're always starving," I say. What I don't tell her is that 70% of the reason I'm excited for dinner is to see Scor. Plus, after dinner, he asked me to meet him by our tree. I wonder what he has planned. Probably nothing, it was already outgoing of him to give me a letter like that, I don't expect him to do much more than that. We'll probably just talk and I'll enjoy it anyway.
When we arrive at the Common Room I see James sitting with Hugo, Lily, Albus, and Grace. We walk over to them and sit.
"Professor Marinourum is so scary! I thought he was going to kill us all!" exclaims Grace dramatically.
"So did I! He asked me if I was related to James and then when I said yes he rolled his eyes. I think he hates me," says Albus, just as dramatically.
"He did the same thing to me!" says Lily.
"Me too! Does he hate you or something?" Grace asks, looking to James and Ashlynn.
"Well... hate is a strong word. Let's just say he deeply doesn't like me," says James.
"He hates you," Ashlynn and I say in unison.
"What did you do to him?" asks Hugo, "He didn't ask me about Rose."
I flash back to first year when Professor Marinourum found out that James was related to Harry Potter. He hasn't really liked any of us since then. I mean, he softened up to me because I'm good in his class, but never really to Ashlynn or James. It doesn't help that James accidentally lit Professor Marinourum's robes on fire one day. Or that Ashlynn stole his wand. Or that James magically glued him to his chair. Or that Ashlynn read his "work" journal to our entire class one day when he was late. It was more like his diary and had all the juicy details of his undying love for Professor Varvara. They're both stupid. It's meant to be.
"Oh, just some good old pranks, nothing too bad," says James.
"He magically glued him to his chair using the spell we learned in class that day," Ashlynn informs them.
"Well you stole his wand so that he would waste the entire class time looking for it instead of checking our homework," says James.
"I didn't do the homework! He would have killed me! I consider it self defense," says Ashlynn.
They all laugh except for Hugo, "James! Ashlynn! That's so stupid! You don't want to get expelled!"
"You're just like your sister," says James laughing, "The guy's annoying. He deserved everything he got."
"He is pretty stupid," says Ashlynn, giggling along with Grace and Lily, remembering Professor Marinourum's reaction when he got up and the chair got up with him. Or when he walked in on Ashlynn in front of the whole class, acting out the things she was reading from his journal. He was fuming. I have to admit, it was pretty funny. Sometimes they just take things a little too far.
"Professor Varvara is so weird!" says Albus.
"She talks like she's a game show host!" says Grace laughing.
Professor Varvara is the Potions teacher and the Head of Hufflepuff. Grace is right, she is really loud.
"She's nice," I say.
"Yeah," says Ashlynn, "Nice and crazy."
"The only good teacher is Dragoste," says James.
Professor Dragoste is the best, but she's not the only good one. Professor Marinourum may be mean, but he is an excellent Charms teacher. He really knows what he's talking about. Besides, he's not really mean, just harsh. The only student he actually doesn't like is James, and I wouldn't like him either if he glued me to my chair. Plus, Professor Silvester knows all there is to know about plants. He's excellent as well.
"When she figured out that we're related to you guys, she started to like us immediately," says Lily, "She said you're her favorite."
"WHEN IS DINNER?" Albus butts in, he's always in it for the food. I swear, the only reason he comes to holiday gatherings is to eat all the food that Grandma Molly makes.
"Soon, Albus," says James, "You're such a pig."
"I'm not a pig, I just like to eat," states Albus.
Ashlynn reaches over to him for a high five, "I couldn't relate more."
"Well good thing dinner is about to start," I say, "Let's go."
We all get up and exit through the portrait. James, Ashlynn, and I lead the way, with our little first year family members trailing behind us. They stare in awe at the tall walls of each corridor. It strikes me that some of the things that are second nature to me, are so new to them. The paintings and the ghosts don't phase me anymore, but they gaze at each one intently.
We arrive at the Great Hall and Albus rushes ahead to sit in our usual spot. By the time we walk over there he's already pigging out on chicken. Ashlynn loads up her plate as well and starts to inhale everything she has.
James watches and laughs, "It seems my brother has more in common with my girlfriend than I do."
Ashlynn shoots him a glare. "I was hungry," she says with a mouth full of food.
I take a sip of my pumpkin juice and look over to the Slytherin table. To my happiness, Scorpius is already looking. I smile and he smiles back, then turns to his friend Silas to start talking. I turn back to my family and friends as James and Ashlynn keep cracking jokes about Professor Varvara's clothes. I have to admit, the neon green robes were probably a mistake.
So sorry for the lack of updates recently! I went to a camp three weeks ago where we weren't allowed any technology so I couldn't write or update. I had a really great time at the camp and came home with basically an entire new mind set on technology and stuff. But don't worry, I'm out of that phase now and back to staying up until three AM watching youtube and checking tumblr. I will really try to update more often from now on. (basic, ik)
