Courtney hated losing. Especially to Duncan. And at this current moment, he had her pinned under him on the mats. She growled loudly and pushed hard at his shoulders

"Tap out, Princess!" Duncan laughed as she struggled under him.

"In your dreams ogre!" she yelled, and quickly flipped him over. And pinned his arms to his sides, she planted her knee firmly on his abdomen. She smirked as his eyes slowly widened, not believing she was actually pinning him. She pressed harder, causing him to flinch. And he angrily tapped the mat. She jumped off off him and raised her fists to the air

"Yes!" she cheered. Duncan slowly sat up, rubbing his sore abs.

"I let you win," he grumbled. She laughed and jumped up and down

"You're just pissed I used your own moves against you," she said snidely. Duncan rolled his eyes and slowly stood up.

"Fine, you beat me this time. But you still can't climb the ropes," he pointed out. Her smile slowly faded, and she looked upward at a large netting above them. She hated rope drills. She would always get her foot stuck, or fall down hard onto the mats below.

"Ugh, please don't make me," she whined. Duncan gave her a stern look

"If you want to become a soldier, you must master all of the skills," he said. He slowly walked over to the wall and pulled a lever. Courtney watched the large net slowly descend from the tall ceiling. Her shoulders slumped and she groaned.

"Go on," Duncan quipped. She gave him a dirty look before slowly pulling her hair back into a pony tail. She walked over to the mat and curled her fingers around the rough ropes. She slowly stuck her foot in one of the holds, and heaved herself upward. She grunted as she slowly started moving upward. Courtney cursed as she lost her footing, but remained holding the ropes with her hands. She could feel the rough texture of the ropes digging into her hands as she climbed.

Duncan watched her climb, his arms crossed, his eyes narrow. He knew she could do this. That's why he made her practice this almost every day.

Plus, the view it gave of her butt wasn't bad either.

"Ah!" Courtney yelped as she lost her footing again, she kicked her feet, now hanging freely from the ropes. She looked down, she must be nearly 15 feet in the air now.

"You're okay," Duncan's calm voice called up to her "Just get your footing back,"

Courtney slowly let out a long breath, and she stuck her foot firmly back into one of the holds in the giant net. She relaxed once she felt safe again. Her onyx eyes slowly looked upward, she still had another 15 more feet until she reached the top. Her arms were burning, causing them to shake. She teared up a little

"I- I can't do it!" she cried. Duncan shook his head up at her

"Yes you can, come on babe. Only a little more to the top!" he cheered her on. She let out a loose cry as she reached up for the rope above her.

But her fingers slipped right off of it. She screamed as she lost her footing again, and slipped off. Falling down towards the mats below.

Duncan gasped and used his immortal speed to rush forward, and leaped to catch her as she fell. She landed roughly into his arms, making him tumble down onto the mats. Holding her tightly in his arms, Duncan checked her over for injuries. He felt her shoulders begin to shake. His face turned to worry, assuming she was crying because she was in pain

"Court-" he started, but slowly she lifted her head. Her mouth open, as she laughed. Her face was red, and her eyes were teary

"God," she said between laughs "I freaking suck at climbing ropes,"

Duncan glared at her, he sighed and stood up. Helping her to her feet as he did so. He brushed himself off and crossed his arms. Watching her continue to laugh. Courtney slowly looked at him, her laughter dying down

"What?" she asked. He gave her a bland look

"It's not funny. You could have gotten seriously hurt," he pestered her. She rolled her eyes

"But I didn't," she mused. He dropped his arms and sighed, he slowly shook his head

"What am I going to do with you?" he asked, just as she opened her mouth to reply, the doors to the training room were burst open. Bridgette came running in

"Guys!" she said "Sebastian has called for an emergency meeting."

Duncan and Courtney shared a look, and quickly rushed out after Bridgette.

"Wait, so you're telling me, that I have to go and speak to those assholes?" Courtney said, once the meeting had come to a cease. Sebastian slowly looked at her

"The Council has to speak with all of the new Vampires that have been made within the last year. They need to keep an eye on them. To make sure they know the rules, and not to break them," he explained. Duncan growled

"Why didn't Able just tell her the rules when I first made her, he was there you know," he said. Sebastian sighed

"He waits until he has the numbers, then he can call one meeting with all of the newbies at once. Its much simpler," he said. Courtney felt stiff, she moved around in her chair at the meeting table, Duncan squeezed her thigh under the table.

"I'm not sending her to speak with those people alone." Duncan said. Courtney cleared her throat

"Duncan, I can handle myself. But thank you," she said. Duncan mumbled something and crossed his arms angrily.

"Plus, this could be a great way to get on the inside. Courtney can go to the High Council's Chambers for the meeting, but she can also do a little sneaking around. Find out what's been going on behind closed doors. This may be the only chance we have for a long time to get into the Chamber," Bridgette spoke up. Courtney looked at her, and bit her lip

"So she's a spy?" a soldier named Noah said, she looked at him. He was a rather short vampire, with short dark brown hair like her own, and a cute face.

"In other words, yes. She's a spy," Sebastian said.

"And she will not be alone, Duncan. You may go with her, but you must not be seen," Sebastian said, now looking at Duncan.

"So what do you say, Court? Will you be our spy?" Bridgette asked her friend. Courtney swallowed hard, and looked around the room. Everyone was looking at her with hopeful eyes, she slumped her shoulders

"Yeah," she breathed, defeated "I guess so,"

Everyone but Duncan made sounds of relief, but he was staring at her. His eyes dark, his eyebrows low. She reached to touch his hand but he stood up suddenly. And left the room. Courtney paled slightly. But shook it off to turn back to the army, she put on her best fake smile.

And tried not to think about what was coming tomorrow night.
