Courtney excused herself from the meeting room, and slowly left. She walked out into the parlor, and followed Duncan's scent upstairs to their bedroom. She pushed open the door, to see him leaning against the windowsill, his eyes looking out the window at the night. Their room overlooked the massive garden out back, Courtney often found herself looking at the very same view. Admiring how beautiful it was, especially at night.

"Duncan?" she said quietly. Gently closing the door behind her. He didn't turn to look at her, but Courtney knew he knew she was there. He was always able to sense her presence.

"Look," she sighed "I know you don't like the idea of me being the spy-"

"Don't like it? Courtney I fucking hate it," he said, turning to look at her. His facial expressions sharp. She looked down at the floor, slowly clasping her hands behind her back. Like she did whenever she had to tell her parents she had received a grade lower than a 95.  She looked back up at him

"Duncan, I know I can do this," she said. He rushed forward, grabbing her shoulders quickly. He shook her to look into his intense eyes

"Have someone else do it! Not you, please," he pleaded. She shook her head

"It has to be me, Duncan. I'm the only new vampire here. That's all they want to speak to. Young vampires. They'll be expecting me anyways. You said it yourself, they saw you turn me." Courtney said, he let go of her shoulders. And growled low in his throat

"This is bullshit! I don't understand why I can't go in with you!" he said. Courtney watched him as he began to pace, something he did when he was nervous.

"Duncan, the last thing we want to happen is have you waltzing in there. They'll know something is up. And last time I checked, we don't exactly want them to know about the army we're in, that's goal is to bring down the Council. That might be a little hard to explain," she said, Duncan ran a hand through his hair. It was getting long, he needed to get it cut.

"You know very well how dangerous this is. You going in there? They hate my guts! They'll jump at any chance they can get to messing with me!" Duncan snapped. He had stopped pacing to tell her this, she sighed

"And they know damn well, that if anything would happen to you, it would kill me," Duncan said. More to himself than to her, his eyes had gone hazy. He was getting lost in his thoughts. Thoughts of them holding Courtney down in front of him, as he watched them stab a long wooden stake through her heart. Him being helpless while watching Courtney turn to a pool of blood at his feet.

Duncan closed his eyes tightly, and shook his head. He opened them again, and walked over to Courtney. He pulled her into his arms, and looked into those beautiful onyx eyes he loved oh so much.

"I just.... Can't handle the fact that you'll be walking into the enemies arms. And I wont be there to help you if something goes wrong." he said quietly. Courtney slowly ran her hands up his large biceps. And swallowed hard

"You haven't had enough training yet. What if they attack you? You aren't ready to handle them." Duncan said. Courtney looked away, but Duncan saw that stubborn set of her jaw. He knew she wasn't going to change her mind.

Her stubbornness was one of the things he loved and hated the most about her. But he guessed that's what he gets, for loving someone as stubborn as himself.

"This may be my only chance, to prove myself to everyone. And I know what you're thinking. That I don't need to prove myself, but yes I do Duncan. I need to prove myself not only to Sebastian and his army, but also to myself. I need to know I can do this. That I really do have what it takes to be in this world. To move among the Night Children. And to be part of this army." she said. Passion behind her words. Duncan stared at her for a long while, so long that Courtney opened her mouth to ask if he was all right. But suddenly he pulled her into his chest. Hugging her tightly, he buried his face into her hair. And breathed in her scent of clean cotton.

"Duncan-" Courtney squeaked out. Duncan pulled her back and crashed his lips to her's. Courtney's eyes widened in surprise at first, but they slowly fluttered closed. She felt his hands slide down her body, and cupped her butt as he lifted her up. She wrapped her long, lean legs around his strong waist. Their lips remained tangled in passion as they moved towards the bed. She only pulled away to gasp a little as he gently tossed her on the bed. But his lips found her's once again. As he moved on top of her, she ran her fingers though his soft black hair. Down his back. She heard him hiss quietly when she dug her sharp nails into his back through his shirt. She felt his lips travel down her neck, sending shivers down her spine. He sat back on his knees to pull his shirt over his head. Courtney flushed and slowly looked down at his body.

Duncan really was a piece of art.

His hands flew down to her tank top, and yanked it over her head. Throwing it across the room. Courtney slipped out a moan as he kissed across her collarbone and towards her chest.

One by one, their clothing came off. Being flung to who know's where. And the lovers spent the night tangled in the sheets. Her soft noises of pleasure and his of desire echoed throughout the dark room. Creating a beautiful love ballad.

And all the while, they were silently praying that this wouldn't be the last time they'd ever make music together.
