Boredom beyond belief

Niall's P.O.V.

I rocked back and fourth in my chair, keeping my balance steady. I counted down the minutes until we were freed from class.

Boredom was beyond an understatement.

Mrs. O'Donald spoke to the class about an essay, but I couldn't hear all the details with the chatter in my head.

Seconds until the bell rang. My fingertips gripped onto the desk as I watched the clock.

Blood flew through my veins and pumped throughout my body. Nerves bubbled up inside my stomach.

Five...four...three...two...one.

"Ring!"

I launched out of my seat and sprinted towards the door.

I searched for Josie as soon as I reached the corridor. Teenagers were scattered across the courtyard chattering about the football game tonight.

Isaiah fist bumped my shoulder before continuing down the hall.

I walked to my locker with my History textbook in my right hand and my binder in my left.

My locker door swung open, giving me full access to my book bag and textbooks.

I stuffed my bag with all my belongings before walking over to Josie's locker.

"Niall!" She engulfed me in a hug.

"Hey."

I couldn't help but smile when I saw her. She was my light in the darkness, my safe haven, my best friend.

The love I had for her was different from the love she had for me. Her love was friendly, mine was romantically.

I hung my head for a minute and stared down at my Nike's.

Josie wore bright yellow Keds. Her shoes showed who she is as a person, not just a fashion trend.

She was bright with happiness. She was outgoing, she was creative, she was a joyful person.

"Are you going to the game tonight?" She threw her English textbook into her locker.

"I dunno." I wasn't planning on going to the game, but if she wanted me to go I would.

"You should! I'll be on the sidelines, but you can sit in the front row of the stands and sing along to the cheers with me. C'mon! It'll be fun."

I didn't know how I should respond to Josie's excitement. Honestly, I'd rather sit on the couch of my house, but she wanted me to go.

Matty would be on the football field either way. He wouldn't be sitting in the stands cheering with her and exchanging glances and smiles.

I felt bad about thinking about flirting with Josie, but I felt better knowing I would be instead of Matty.

"Why don't we just ride together? Matty has to go to football practice and we don't have cheer afterschool because coach is getting knee surgery. We can just go to the mall or something before the game."

I nodded my head in agreement.

"Okay."

Josie and I walked alongside each other until we left the school grounds and to her house.

"So- what are we doing?" I questioned.

"Anything you want to do. Maybe go to the mall, go downtown, hang out at my house and watch a movie. The possibilities are endless!" She threw her hands up in the air, laughing to herself.

"Sorry, I'm not funny."

I chuckled as I watched the expression on her face grow.

"I-" I bit my tongue, stopping the words from coming out of my mouth.

"I think your funny." I tried to change my comment.

We laughed together in unison. Her hair blew in the wind, brushing against her cheeks.

"Why thank you."

I smirked, staring at the sun shinning brightly in the high sky. Vibrant colored trees swayed back and fourth.
