Elizabeth.

I ended up at Rafael’s 20 minutes early. I didn’t wanna look too keen and desperate, so I waited. Five minutes passed and I remembered the cat. I was supposed to go back to help the cat. So I knocked on the door at 3:45  with a fairly good reason.  Yes the cat, good excuse. I shushed the voice and waited for a response.  A small girl opened the door. Maybe 11 or 12 years old. Was this Rafael’s sister? They looked nothing alike. While Rafael had straight hair, this girl has ringlet. While he has green eyes she has blue. While his hair is brown, hers are blonde. Rafael had a tan to his skin, she was snow-white. “Who are you?” She spoke with a attitude. Perfect cliché,isnt it. Beautiful bitch. Preteens these days... But the voice and face did seem familiar. I just couldn't put her face to a name. When I didn't answer in the form she wanted me too she sighed and called for Jane to come. She never called Jane Mum or Mamà, as Rafael would, she simply called her Jane. Who was this girl?

Jane came rushing to the door and said, “Ah Elizabeth, Rafael didn't expect to early so he is in the shower right about now. You can wait in here if you want.” She waved me in and said, “Make yourself at home.” I smiled at the gesture and explained,

“Thank you but I came to check up on the cat from this morning? I promised I would be back to see if it still needs my p-” she cut me short with a shake of the head, telling me not to say anything about powers in front of the girl, “-assistance.”

“Okay Hun,” The walked me to the kitchen and i could loudly hear the girl shout,

“Rafael! Your girlfriends here.. So get your ass down here. Now!” I laughed at her comment and explained how me and Rafael weren't a couple. I’m not even sure of we were friends. He is a stupid dog at times.

When the cat saw me it fell into a fit of meows. I picked up the cat and unwrapped its paw first. It seemed fine so I adjusted him onto the ground to see if he could walk.  Thankfully he could. Next his ear. I unwrapped that too. I had to test his hearing as his outer ear looked fine. If his accident did seem to affect his hearing I would have to go to the vet. The only thing I’m scared of is if they put him down like a dog. Sometimes when they cant find people who want to adopt the pets.. They put ‘em down.

I whispered into his ear to see the affect. Nothing happened. I walked to the far corner of the room and clicked my fingers. When cats hear something from a distance, it’s ears will tilt back. Predatorial skills. The kittens did. But not as far as the other ear. Maybe it was just the angle I was standing. I moved directly behind the cat and whistled. That time both his ears moved back the same.  Thank fuck for that. I guess I know how to use my gift now.

I waited for Rafael to come downstairs. His hair was still wet and he came down doing the last few buttons of this polo top, which was too big but oh well. “Elizabeth” he nodded at me. I took it as a ‘Hello’ so I answered,

“Rafael”  He sat on the chair and examined the cat.

“Good job.” He didn't even look at me while speaking. Rude.

“Thanks. Soo... Rafael” He managed to rip his gaze from the cat and look everywhere around the room but in my direction.

“Huh.. Um, right. The lesson.” He locked gazes with me and asked, “Do you mind if we go upstairs?”

“Nah, it’s fine.” He walked me upstairs in a very peaceful fashion.

As we walked pass the living room I heard that girl say, “See, how are they not a couple, Jane?” I ignored it of course and continued walking upstairs.  This little girl was starting to get on my nerves. I could feel my eyes tingling, changing as I walked silently up the stairs.
