Chloe/ Derek

Being shaken awake is not something anyone enjoys, but Chloe had gotten use to it like most newlyweds do. You might wonder if it's the concerned husband waking up the wife in fear for their baby, but no, there was no baby in sight. Just a necromancer and a werewolf trying to get the married life a shot between two paranormal races. Rolling up and over out of bed, slipping on some rainboots, she blindly put a hand on her husband's sweaty form leading to the yard that was far away from prying eyes of regular society. Derek was still getting use to controlling his shift, and Chloe was the main ingredient that kept him calm through the bone breaking process. Having already consummated their relationship on their wedding night, Derek was stripped naked and already bending on all fours to prepare himself for the change. Chloe sat down next to him, both of them on the dewy grass surrounded by the deafening sounds of night-time crickets, cicadas, and all manner of nocturnal creatures, she slowly started to rub the spot between the shoulder blades that help trigger and relax his shifting process altogether.

"Maybe next time you can wake me up for some ravenous night of love making?" Chloe remarked casually keeping her tone light and airy. Derek grunted out a harsh laugh while his body rocked and rolled in unnatural positions.

"My wish is your command," he said between pants, "wouldn't want you bringing any of the dead wildlife into my side of the room to haunt me again," he grunted as the last of his vocal cords changed and went out. Chloe began to smile remembering the first time they argued as newlyweds and she had gotten revenge by making a dead lizard crawl all over his side of the room making it smell like the shit he was being. Her smile dropped however as she watched her lover change forms from his natural human skin to fur covered and a longer snout. The cracking and shifting of bone and cartilage is not a sound anyone could get use to, however every relationship came with its own set of difficulties. Looking at the ring on the hand stroking Derek's shoulder blades that were slowly getting more hairy, Chloe thought back to her makeshift wedding,  remembering how hard it was to find a home town preacher and locate a town where the marriage license wouldn't lead those of the Edison Group who would experiment on them back to the humble abode that her and Derek now abide in. The actual wedding itself could not have gone more smoothly with Simon as the best man, their Dad walking her down the aisle, Tori the maid of honor. Chloe and Derek had to have a long talk on the decision to get married; it would be more dangerous if one of them got caught by the Edison Group, since they would never rest trying to find the other, Derek would have to take his ring off every time he shifted, Chloe would have to open herself up to Derek about every spirit she saw. No matter how hard of a decision that it was, Chloe and Derek wanted to take their love to the higher road, and stop running from those chasing them and settle down. It was the right time to do that and that is what they did, chose being together.

Chloe's smile soon settled back onto her face, seeing her husband was finishing his shift, she stood up, going over to the hammock they had put out so they could gaze at the stars together. Her being so short, and so that when Derek shifted he to could join her, she climbed the small stool onto the hammock, ready for a long night of stargazing and the opportunity to whisper sweet nothings to the universe and Derek. He weakly got onto all fours and joined her, padding softly behind her retreating form to the shared hammock. Stepping up into the hammock, they both cuddled together, utterly and completely comfortable with the paranormal gifts that each one of them had. Acceptance and true love is the one gift neither one of them would ever take for granted.

This one-shot will make sense if you have read the Dark Powers saga by Kelley Armstrong, namely The Summoning, The Awakening, and most importantly The Reckoning. I do not own character of course, but I do take credit for this amazing (if I do say so myself) imaginary of their future relationship after the courses of The Reckoning.
