Coffee Shop AU

You never did like coffee. But the smell of warmth it seemed to emit kept you coffee shop exploring. Bouncing from one place to another, trying to find the perfect place to call a reading cave. Today, since class at college had ended early, and your other class had gotten cancelled, you decided to walk around town until the next bus could pick you up. Glancing down at the phone in your hand, you searched diligently around all the bus stops to see if there was a coffee shop you missed.

"Shit, fu- "you caught yourself, glancing at the small child 5 feet away from you. Ready to kick whatever had caused that sharp hot pain to race up your shin, you looked down at the chalk board proclaiming in what looked like epic tattoo font, "Sit down, have a coffee, everything is going to be fine."

"Well, it dam better be," I mumbled under my breath smirking at fate and her bitch ass. Pushing the see-through glass door, I heard cheap Christmas bells announce my presence. Surveying the area, letting my eyes take in the aura of everything, I saw booths, comfy, mismatched benches, barely large enough to fit legs let alone the college backpack I was touting. Taking a deep breath while closing my eyes, I let in the sweet, addicting smell of that rich brown bean hit my nasal passages.

"Living la vida Mocha!" the staff member behind the counter greeted at the same time as a waiter did who was attending another person's order.

Repressing the urge to blush like the 14-year-old I was inside, "Thanks ya'll," I replied curtly plopping down in the nearest most worn booth. Doing the backpack squat, I released the luggage I was carrying onto the bench I did not plan to put my butt in.

Finally seated I inspected the staff. I had to know if they were the kind that would ask what kind of book I was reading or not. The kitchen/ cash register staff seemed like a nice enough lady, rich tattoos here and their adorning her skin like lost artwork had found its home.

The waiter seemed to have gotten the same message, and had a sleeve up one arm, hair half shaved, showing off a geometric tattoo behind his right ear. His hair looked like it had been through pink, red, blond, and bleach, a wild wave of cotton candy on his head making him almost puppy like. Knowing that one should never judge a person based on the fact that you don't like their tattoos made me want to pull this cute boy aside and push him against a wall and have my filthy ways.

Dammit girl, that's porn as Miranda Sings would say. Shoving those thoughts in a box in the back of my head as he approached my table, I scanned the menu for something resembling hot chocolate.

"Hi, my name is Josh," he sped through, "welcome to La Vida Mocha, what can I get for you today?" He crossed his arms after he finished, making himself seem smaller, bashful even.

"I almost didn't belive the sign outside when it said everything was going to fine," checking him out again, "I'd like to try the 'Kiss me Gentle' hot chocolate," eyes dipping from his, to his wide lips, back into his doe brown eyes.

Red creeped up from his neck, to his ears, "Yes, the uh-" flustered, he flipped open his notebook to the wrong page, "the fine," he paused looking panicked, " I mean the, uh, hot chocolate?"

Pleased you having curled your hair today, not looking like a rachet starbucks bum, "Yes, honey. Your number on the side would be much appreciated," you added begging him for more of a reaction.

He dropped his pen.

The look of flustered defeat on his face tore a giggle out of me so fast you snorted. Covering your mouth quickly, you kept in the quieter laughs while he ducted under the table to get it. "Watch your-" thump, "never mind."

Back into a standing position, he recited my order more confidently and ran as fast as he could back to the counter.

Letting your eyes trail behind him, those classy skinny jeans hugging his ass, you kept the smile on your face deciding then and there that this was the end of your journey of coffee explorations. You had found a home.
