Hybrid/ Human

The girl was not what she seemed. Her flickering eyes darted over the countertops of the diner that was straight out of a redneck's wet dream. Dust lined trophies shaped in lifeless blues of wildlife covered the walls like a sick mosaic painting. She pursed her lips like she had a secret to tell, but the bouncing of her leg implied it made her more nervous than not having the huge plate of grits, a sad looking pile of runny eggs, and a square box-like sausage toaster in her flat growling stomach. She picked her plate in nervous pecks like a bird trying to hit the sweet spot of the ground where the worms were just right. The cow bell hung over the doorknob of the Mom and Pop restaurant she stopped in highway middle of nowhere sent her dark circled eyes flickering right back to the doorway. By now even the bus boy who roamed tables like a cow roams its pasture, picking up dirty plates, could tell she was waiting for the inevitable. The clothes fit loose on her, a threadbare long sleeved plaid shirt with the buttons at the end of each sleeve wrung out to their bare thread, threatening to come off at any moment if she just swung too fast. Her eyes widened, looking down as if she just realized she had food in front of her. When the tired waitress, with messy hair had come to take her order, the girl figured by her brisk manner she wasn't going to get her food any faster because of how ragged she looked. Continuing her pecking actions, she swept the entire plate in a clockwise pattern, sipping the water placed in front of her occasionally.

Kate had taken a huge risk in coming to the diner. She knew her drunk ass sperm donor would be waking up around this time. Probably wouldn't have even realized her 18th birthday had been that day, she only carried the things she needed. One duffel bag of her least alcohol, blood stained clothes she owned, her diary collection, the hairbrush she could never find on a good day, toothpaste, toothbrush, deodorant and the keys to the beat-up piece of shit car that Kate poured her heart and soul into. Taking a deep breath, she fingered the worn coin case, with its delicate leather lining that was the last thing of her mother. She could not bear to carry the weight of her death, when all her father had done was put it on her. Admiring the texture, a small quirk upwards of her mouth hovered there for a moment, a flicker of a happier time before the cold fate of reality sucked it back away as her fingers danced over the edges, pulling out crumpled, worn bills, like her. Gently placing them on the counter with the yellow, miss-torn bill, she slid slowly off of the bar stool, worn Nike knock offs barely making a sound. One foot in front of the other Kate sighed to herself.

A firm hand reached out of thin air, grasping her thin wrist a limb clad in broken scars and fatigue. Flinching she closed her eyes, her first reaction, lungs freezing picturing the cop that no doubt had stopped her ready to send her back to hell. The hand eased its pressure, sliding down to hold her hand instead of grasp it tightly. Kate peeked open her right eye, squinting through her lack of sleep to get as far away as possible. She met gazes with a silver eyed, blessing from the gods. Sturdy jaw line, wide lips parted in amazement, almost like he was trying to inhale all the air around Kate, plain nose, thoughtful eyebrows, brown hair gloriously tipped on the side, making Kate's hands twitch with the need to run her fingers through it, and god those eyes. Hooded with long eyelashes, softened with the crinkles around them, she could stare into them endlessly. They almost seemed to turn, like the rotation of planets, a galaxy within his soul ready to be set- wait why is he staring at me?

"Stay," he begged as I tugged my hand back towards my side.

Frowning, "Why?" I replied truly not needing a reason if it meant I got to stare in those fucking amazing eyes again.

His rough voice lifted my senses, "I'll do anything to keep you, mon cheri, I want to get to know you and we don't get new blood around these parts," he spoke trying to downplay the eagerness of both sides of him screaming to take her over his shoulder and carry her off the earth where they could make their own worlds. Inhaling her scent when he first walked in to go pick up his fellow packmate, one of the ones that could tolerate his half-breed, he nearly fainted when both sides of him were in sync filling his veins with controlled power, the like of which he had never before felt. Being half alien and half werewolf came with its own set of trials, this one probrably the largest. Having given up on the hope that maybe the goddess of his mother had taken pity on him and had given him a mate, he shouldered his pack duty and became a school teacher, partly assisting the pack doctor when he needed the help. His father's powers and biological make up only made it harder for him to control his wolf, but the second her pheromones hit his brain cells, the only thoughts he could hear were the ones in his own head, on repeat and loop, love her, she is mine, must keep her safe, take her home, comfort her, keep, safety, keep, SAFTEY! "I have an extra cabin, you could stay there a while to get back on your feet. Not that you look like your homeless," he babbled to cover up the rushing in his ears, "you look beautiful, but the cabin is rented out by hunters during dear season, so you could also rent it if you wanted. Not that yo-" she cut him off, with a slow smile to her eyes that were still calculating him.

"Yes, please, take me there, I'll follow behind you." Lord knows when that car is going to die out on her. Placing her hand back in his she shook it, "Name's Kate, yours?"

"Rashad Taurus."
