Riele -
Southern California was a human barbecue grill in the summer. As the seasons were changing the temperature raised to an even 96 degree every day. I got a call back for The Masquerade and did a screen test for my role as Lola Baxter with Jace again to test our chemistry in front of an actual camera. It seemed like the director and the production manager liked me but I never knew what they really thought until I went home and received a call from the producer later that night.
"I got the part?"
"Yes, the advising Director Tali Vitelli wants you to be at the next table read 11:00 am sharp this Friday. congratulations Riele."
"Ahh! Thank you so much, I'll be there!"
"You have a good day."
"You too! Bye!"
I tossed my phone up in the air excitedly and paraded around my apartment in a series of high leg kicks and happy dances.
"I got the part! Whoo! Yes, I got that part! Yeah! Who got the part? I got the part!"
At the end of my celebration, I collapsed on the floor and smiled lazily up at the ceiling, laughing at myself. I was going to be the star of a major motion picture, can this day get any better. As I was lying there, a slow realization began to set in my mind. This job would intel me to be working closely with my ex-boyfriend.
"Fuck."
I muttered, sitting up and shaking my head. Not every opportunity has glamourous outcomes, I just hoped that I could work past my feelings and create a professional but confident environment for myself.
...
Jace -
"You're going to Disney Land."
"What?"
"I said you're-"
"-No, I heard what you said. I meant what am I going to Disney Land for?"
I sat up in bed, grabbing a fistful of my hair in my hand. It was around 11: am in the morning and even though the sun was shaking off its own sleepiness I wasn't ready to get up yet. I was awakened by the sound of my phone ringing which happened to be my agent.
"Tali wants to do tea building exercises, so they thought a trip to the Magic Kingdom would help you, Riele, and the others get closer."
I sighed heavily, shifting my phone from one ear to the other. It was no surprise Mark had a sense of humor, to begin with. He knew Riele and I had broken up not too long ago and for whatever reason he cast her making my life even more complicated. I already can't stop thinking about her when she's not even around. Facing her every day for three more months, working with her, kissing her and pretending that I'm just "Acting" is going to be the death of me.
"I dunno..."
"You don't really have a choice, the exposure from this movie could land you deals I have yet to succeed in and what's wrong with having a little fun?"
"I don't even like Disney Land, whose idea was that?"
"Beats me."
"Can't we just go for dinner?"
"Look, if the options of team bonding were up to me we wouldn't even be having this conversation."
"When is the trip?"
"This afternoon, 4 pm on the dot."
"What the fuck, man."
I threw my covers back and pulled a discarded shirt down over my head before getting out of bed.
