Riele -

Being inside his car again was like stepping into a time machine. It smelled like Febreeze- Air fresheners, and stale In-N-Out burger wrappers. I guess nothing ever really changes when you think about it. Why would it? We still lived our lives the way we used to when we were apart. Except now, I'm not a shruken turtle in her shell anymore. I suppose that's one thing I will always appreciate about this make-over. It wasn't the clothes or the makeup, or the shoes, and the additude. It was the fact that I was able to find myself being comfortable in my own skin and I had a renewed confidence that freed me from my demons. Jace connected the AUX cord to his phone and played a song I was familiar with.

I looked over at him, but he stared straight ahead with a stormed exspression on his face, softened by the glow of traffic lights and dosing moonlight.

"Why this song?"

I muttered, burying a hand in my curls as I leaned my elbow against the door and sighed. It was tragically  beautiful. Something that you can float away with in a sea of your own tears.

"I dunno... Just felt like listening to it."

Jace replied.

"Why did you keep this?"

"It reminds me of you."

He said. I chuckled dryly, shaking my head.

"That figures."

Jace glanced at me, leaning back in the seat as the traffic began to pile up on the highway.

"What do you mean? Do you still listen to the playlist I made you?"

"I keep it on my phone, but I haven't listened to in a while."

I pulled a springy black curl away from my head and examined it. Jace nodded slowly, easing his foot off the break as we coasted along the intersections.

"I used to play it when I missed you... Believing music has the power to make everything better."

"Jace-"

"What?"

"Why are you doing this?"

I sat up straight and turned my full attention to him.

"Doing what?"

I titled my head and gave him a look, because he knows. He knows what he's doing.

"You know what you're doing, and it's not going to work."

"What am I doing? I don't know what you're talking about, I'm just being honest. You don't want me to be honest? I thought that's what got us in this mess in the first place."

He said. I watched his fist grip the steering wheel tightly, shaking my head.

"No, what got us in this mess was you fucking Isabela behind my back. Then it was the fact that you lied to me about it."

"Riele, she meant nothing to me and I think you should know that by now."

"It's too late. What's done is done."

"Why? I'm sorry, why does it have to be too late?"

Jace looked over at me, but my gaze was now trapped outside the window. If you stared hard enough you could see the very tip top of Cinderella's Castle at Disney Land and the fireworks that were lighting up the sky.
