"Happy New Year Blair!" I turn and see my best friend jumping as high as she can, excited for what the New Year might bring. For me though, I could not care less. All this new year means to me is more work for my dad and less time with me. I never even get to eat supper with him. He's never home, and that makes me feel more alone than ever.

"Thanks Cass. You too." I give her a fake smile and grab a water from Jesse, the bartender.

I don't drink. To me, there's not really a point. Why drink something that makes you either pour out your secrets or pour out your food? Not to mention the fact that it tastes dreadful. Oh, and it slowly kills you. People are just stupid to drink this stuff. Anyway, I go get my water and when I'm about to pay for it, Jesse won't take my cash.

"Blair, you know you don't have to pay." he smiles and turns around. Jesse and I have a weird friendship. We met when we were thirteen, playing spin the bottle at a party, and kissed. Nothing really happened after that. Just didn't feel right. Anyway, we've been kind of close ever since.

"That's two dollars, right?" and I hand him my money.

"That's no dollars, Blair." He gives me my money back.

Let me explain something. My dad is the richest lawyer in New York. His usual clients being Lindsey Lohan, The Kardashians, lots of famous people. I kind of liked it at first, meeting some of my favorite celebrities every now and then. Now, it's just a normal routine and I finally thought to myself that if they were such great people, they wouldn't need to be paying my dad four hundred dollars an hour just to stay rich. My dad is good at his job, but you can tell that it is slowly killing him. Each day, he loses more energy, more sleep, more of his life.

More of his daughter.

I put my cash in the tip jar and walk away before Jesse can give it back to me. I turn around and see Jesse shaking his head at me, with a slight crack of a smile. I stick my tongue out at him and go back to Cassie and Angeline. Cassie, of course, is on the dance floor, her long blonde hair following her every move. Cassie's round, blue eyes and high cheekbones make her seem about five years older than her actual age, nineteen. I look around and finally find my childhood best friend, Angeline. Only, she wasn't alone. That short black hair of hers was intertwined in some boy's fingertips, as he was kissing her exceptionally rough.

I go and sit down at a chair in the back corner of the club and take a sip of my bottled water. Here it is, New Year's, and I am sitting alone, while everyone else has fun. It's time like these, that I miss my mom and little brother Kaden. I remember playing with my mother's long black hair while Kaden would play a game of chess with my father. Those days, I will never forget. I will always cherish them, because I know there will never be another day like that.

After a long trance of La-La Land, I look up and sure enough, Angeline is still sucking face with the random boy. Cassie is walking over here though. I give her a warm smile and she stops in her tracks. She slowly turns to a potted plant and then throws up in it. Seems like the alcohol was making her pour out the stromboli we shared earlier, Looks like she gets to keep her secrets for another day. Cass wipes her mouth and runs over to me, sitting in the open chair beside me. On instinct, I grab a piece of gum from my bag and hand it to her.
