Mark's POV
After we had that little...Discussion. Everything went back to normal. Me and Jack talked about the most randomness things. Completely avoiding any, and all serious topics. Here and there nurses came in to check up on Jack, making sure his vitals were fine, and just overall testing to make sure he was okay.
It went fairly well, the nurses never really phased him. Once someone left, we continued out conversation on whatever. Near lunchtime, a nurse brought in Jack some food, and we ate it together. So far it was a pretty nice day.
Of fucking course that had to end. After lunch, we heard a knock on the door. Both me and Jack thought I was a nurse, but when the door opened. It was not.
It was a police officer.
Shit.
I grabbed Jack's hand, and instantly he squeezed it. I looked at the police officer then back at Jack. Watching his reaction. His smile was gone, and he looked serious. I was expected him to be scared, or anxious or something. I was scared he wasn't going to tell the truth when the police officer would ask him the question.
"Hello, my name is officer Turner, I'm here to ask you a few questions?" The officer spoke, sitting down in a chair and bringing out a tiny notepad and pen.
"Go right ahead officer," He sounded way too confident.
"What happened for you to be in here?"
"Me and a friend," he's going to lie, I knew it. I watched him speak so confidently, not even showing he was lying, "Were wrestling, and it got way out of hand," he chuckled lightly before shrugging, "There shouldn't be any trouble officer, it was all an accident."
"Is this the friend?" I looked at the officer, who was looking at me.
"Oh heavens no! It was a different friend."
"Do you remember how you ended up naked?"
"Me and a friend were playing truth or dare," oh my god. This is why he wasn't phased by officer coming in, he already had everything planned.
"Is this all true?" The officer looked at me, and I wondered to myself: Should I tell the truth, and possibly loose Jack as a friend? Or should I go along with it and possibly put him in danger again?
"Yes, sir," I said, showing no signs of lying I hope. I regretted it. Fuck, I just put him in more danger. He stared at the both of us before nodding.
"Alright, have a good day," He said, standing up and walking out.
"Thank you, Mark," He said, squeezing my hand again.
"I'm not happy with this," I said quietly, taking a deep breath and looking at him.
"I know.. I just don't want to be taken away.."
I sighed softly, shaking my head lightly, having a feeling this was going to get serious again, I opened my mouth to talk, but he put a finger to my lips, "Don't. Don't say anything. I know you're not happy with this, Mark. I completely, completely, understand. Please try to see my point of view though-"
"Jack, I can see through your eyes-"
"Shoosh! Let me talk ya big doof," I chuckled lightly but didn't say anything, "I'm sorry for saying that, I know you can relate to a lot of this, but I'm just scared that I'll be taken away from here. To a foster home or something. I'm not even sixteen yet! I can't live on my own! I might be taken away to some place out of this town, then I wouldn't be able to see you again," his eyes met mine, and I instantly got lost. Usually I could read some sort of emotion, but I couldn't this time, "I don't want to lose you."
I didn't say anything. I didn't do anything.
Jack did not say anything. He did not do anything.
We stared at each other. His hand reached for mine again, squeezing it.
It was quiet. A comfortable silence. We still stared at each other, and honestly I have no idea what was going on. It felt strange, not between us, but I did. I felt so weird, my stomach was flipping everywhere.
"Jack?" I whispered, my voice barely audible. He simply hummed as a response.
I didn't realize that I was leaning into him until I felt out lips connect, and the fireworks were let off.
