Chapter. 4
Three classes have passed, they were quite boring, but that was just Jack's opinion. Out of those three classes, only one of them was without Mark.
Already it felt strange not having him nearby.
That wasn't a good sign.
That was a very, very bad sign. The Irish man waited for Mark by the classroom, the next period was lunch. He was going to let Mark decide if he wanted to eat in the cafeteria or eat in the library.
"Hey," Mark greeted Jack, startling him a bit.
"Hey," he replied, doing his classic smiled towards the other, "How was the class?"
Mark shrugged, and the two begun walking to get their food, "Really boring, I didn't realize how right you were about the people here. I think i was put in the group of a nerd or the nothings. " he laughed a little.
Jack snickered quietly, "Look at you! The new kid is getting the hang of it!"
They both laughed a little bit, walking towards the cafeteria.
"Alright, so it's like any other cafeteria. You get a tray, and you get the food you want. Easy," Jack said, doing as he said. Mark followed Jack, getting a tray and getting what they want. They got down to the drinks, Jack got water, Mark got apple juice. Comparing the two's trays, Jack had almost nothing. Just a water bottle, a few French fries, and some sort of cake.
Mark had more than that, and he wondered why Jack wasn't really eating."Wanna eat in here or the library?" Jack asked, stopping to look at Mark. He took a second to think before replying with, "Let's eat in here."
Jack sighed to himself, but smiled and nodded. "Pick a seat. "Mark didn't reply, and looked around, walking to an empty table for him and Jack. They both sat down. Jack was obviously tensed up, and Mark noticed.
It was almost directly after Mark was about to ask what was wrong, when Jack was taking a drink. Someone, who Mark didn't realize, smacked the water bottle from his hand, making it go everywhere on him. Taking his tray and slamming it against his face.It all happened so quickly, and once Jack was wiping his eyes from cake frosting, the student pushed Jack backwards, causing him to fall on his back. Making the wind get knocked out of him.
Mark was instantly on the ground, trying to make sure his friend was okay. Shit, this all happened too fast. He couldn't even stop the dude. He tried helping the green haired one up, but once he grabbed his hand to help, someone poured a carton of milk on his head. Mark stopped, surprised by the action. The person who did this, laughed.
He finished helping Jack up before staring at the person, "Why? Why-" He didn't finished before Jack grabbed his wrist and pulled him away, "It's useless. Let's go. "
The bully laughed, "I thought so! You wouldn't dare fight back. " adding some insults.
Mark tried pulling away from Jack, muttering some things to himself , but he tightened his grip. "Forget about it. " Jack said, pulling Mark to the bathroom.
Instantly he let go of Mark, grabbing some paper towels to dry Mark up.
Jack didn't see Mark grab some as well. "Stand still. " Jack said, as he begun dabbing the paper towel on Mark's clothes. "I'm sorry for this. I warned you. You shouldn't hang around me. This will happen to you, a lot. It's not good. They'll torture you, until you beg for mercy. " Jack went on and on, apologizing some more. He felt absolutely terrible about it. "It's your first fucking day and Mike has already gotten you."
'So the guy's name is Mike,' Mark thought to himself.
He almost wasn't even listening to Jack, he didn't reply, he didn't do anything but stare at him.
"Mark? Are you listening?" Jack asked, pausing for a second and looking up at him. "Hello?" Dabbing more dry paper towels on him.
Mark, taking a few paper towels beforehand, started cleaning up Jack. Causing the other to stop moving. For some reason this took Jack by surprise.
"You have cake frosting all over you. " Mark said, chuckling lightly.
"How can you not be taking this seriously??" Jack said, stopping Mark's cleaning.
"Stop. You helped me, I'm going to help you," Mark said, ask he begun getting the frosting off of him. It was quiet. Kind of awkward, "So..Uh.. How's the weather down there?"
It was silent.
Then a second passed before the two to start laughing their asses off.
"It's pretty chilly down here," Jack smiled, reaching his eyes, "That was a really lame joke, Mark. "
Mark laughed at the response, "At least the seriousness is gone now! Gotta add some sort of light to the situation. "
Jack shrugged, "True. True. You're really good at that. " he said, chuckling once more. "We need to figure out how to get this crud out of our hair. " He said, looking at Mark's hair, with milk still dripping from it.
There were two sinks in there, and the two boys both stuck their heads underneath it and washed out the stuff.
"Ah, much better. " Mark said, shaking his head, making sure he'd get Jack a little wet.
"Aye you bastard!" He laughed, trying to do the same thing, but unfortunately for him his hair wasn't as thick as Mark's.
"Ha ha!" Mark said, teasing Jack for not being able to do it.
"Wanna go to the library and just hang out?" Jack asks, and Mark nods.
"I think for now on, I'll bring my own lunch so I don't have to go back to the cafeteria. " Mark said, and the two headed out of the bathroom together.
"Wow, you are learning the ways of avoiding things. Good job. " Jack said, nudging Mark with his elbow.
Mark looked at him, smiling, but then frowning, "Uh.. Jack?"
Jack looked at him, "Yes?"
"What's on your face?" Mark asks, it looked like a small purple spot. Plus some stuff that didn't look too good
Jack put his hand to his cheek, and his eyes widened, "Oh.. It's from the bullies. " he lied. Biting his tongue. He realized his makeup had been wiped off since he cleaned off his face.
Mark didn't believe it, but he wouldn't push Jack over the edge and force him to talk.
He'd knew he'd have to get to know him better for him to open up.
"I can handle them for you if you want," Mark said, and Jack looked at him, with no emotion.
"You wouldn't want to do that. They'll ruin you. "
Mark was about to reply but Jack interrupted him, "Well. Here's the library." He opened the door for the two to walk in. "Just fine a random book and act like you're reading it, we can talk as much as we want though. "
And that's what they did.
